"Animal Kingdom": a chaotic and sinful home

Silent ending. Although the boy did what you and I both hoped for, where is his future? Did he really choose his own path?

When the big boy first entered the family, anyone with a discerning eye could see that it was weird, an old woman and three big men, the air was full of spoiling. Three middle-aged men are immersed in drugs and crime, while the old mother is like a queen in the animal kingdom, ruling the family in her own way and protecting three children. Originally, her other child, the boy’s mother, was unwilling to accept such an environment and left home, telling the boy that they were all bad guys. Ironically, this mother died of a drug overdose... She still did not escape after all. Although the influence of this kingdom has been far away for a long time.

Years of drug abuse made these three men more or less mentally abnormal, especially the boss, who often did not understand reality and illusion, and would also act in extremes. It can be said that he is the culprit in this series of tragedies, and it is because of him that changed the fate of his brothers and the boy's life. From the time he started to encourage his brothers to kill the police, until he smothered the boy's girlfriend, making mistakes again and again. It can be said that his subsequent behavior did not go through the brain to think at all, and his entire brain was chaotic in marijuana and drugs.

Even so, the queen still uses her influence to try to settle this seemingly hopeless thing. In her eyes, only her three children, and the grandchildren who are trying to testify are all alien and must be eliminated. For her, no matter what bad things her children do, there is nothing wrong. She just wants to be able to guard them at home. However, at this time, she underestimated the boy. Under the Queen's rule, the middle generation only had to obey, but the younger generation had witnessed everything and decided to end it by themselves. Whether the police or relatives, the boy no longer believes in anyone, he just wants to execute the beast himself.

It is hard to imagine that there is such a real world on the Australian mainland where the country is peaceful and human rights are emphasized. Although this family is full of crime, the police who kill innocent people are not much better, just like stains, everywhere. Drugs are so rampant that teenagers do not refuse to try it. Such an environment is really creepy. Is there a pure land in this world? !

SUCKERS: this is the power of good independent films -- quietly overwhelming

The rhythm is not good and requires enough patience. The director's first feature-length film is shot much like a TV show, but some moments of conflict are shocking enough. The male protagonist is sluggish and stiff, and a big failure. Jacki Weaver's performance is not on the same level as the others, too outstanding. I am very interested in this theme, these characters, and the whole story, and I think it is very suitable for writing a novel. The text should be able to express the undercurrent completely.

Animal Kingdom quotes

  • Barry Brown: Hey, so Nicole's a sweetie. Where'd ya find her?

Joshua 'J' Cody: [as J. leaves urinal] Found her at school.

Barry Brown: Where are you going?

    Joshua 'J' Cody: What?

Barry Brown: Did you wash your hands?

    Joshua 'J' Cody: No.

Barry Brown: You had your hands on your cock. Your hands go anywhere near your ass or your cock, you wash 'em after. Jesus, c'mon. Bit of soap, get a lather going. Rinse. Alright that's enough, now stick 'em under there.

    [Gesturing towards hand dryer]

Joshua 'J' Cody: I'm invisible, these things never see me.

Barry Brown: No one's invisible, mate.

  • Andrew 'Pope' Cody: [after the funeral of Baz, Darren is at the sink fixing himself a drink when Pope enters] Where'd you get that suit? What's that suit?

    Darren Cody: It's a suit.

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: What do you think, it looks good on you?

    Darren Cody: What?

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: Looks gay. You gay?

Darren Cody: Fuck off, will you?

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: It's a serious question. I don't care if you're gay or if you're not gay, you know? It's alright if you are, mate. I just want you to tell me about it, you know? I don't care whether you're gay or you're not gay. I just want you to talk to me about it, you know? You making yourself a drink?

    Darren Cody: Yep.

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: What is it?

Darren Cody: It's a bourbon and Coke.

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: Bourbon and Coke's not a very gay drink, mate. I think, look, if you're a gay man, if you are, and you wanna make yourself a gay drink, just go ahead and make yourself a gay drink, you know what I mean? That's what I'm talking about, mate. I just want you to tell me things. You know, it kills me to see you living a lie.

Darren Cody: Look, will you fuck off? Seriously.

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: What do you think we should do?

Darren Cody: I think we should be there for Cath and the family and that.

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: What are you gonna do, Darren?

Darren Cody: It's wrong and all that, but, you know.

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: You know, if Baz was still here right now and we'd just been to your funeral, we wouldn't be having this conversation 'cause he'd have already done something about it. If you don't want to do anything because you're scared. Is it because you're scared? It's alright if you are. I just want you to tell me about it. Just talk to me.
