Story: 7/10
Performance: 9/10
Comprehensive evaluation: B.
First of all, everyone notice that there is a "US" in the title. What does it mean? In fact, it means "American version". In fact, the German director directed an Austrian film of the same name in 1997, but he always felt that this film was for old Americans. So he copied the original version almost frame by frame and made this English version. However, this film, which is definitely not suitable for the general public, was released on a small scale in the United States for a month, and it has only earned an early $1M. The box office goes to the box office, let's talk about the film itself.
Students who like to watch horror movies usually come into contact with old American movies, little Japanese movies, and Hong Kong movies. Old and beautiful horror movies are the so-called "Hollywood style". They basically use hearing and vision to scare people. They are momentary stimulus. When you watch them, you may feel nauseous. After watching, rub your eyes, why should you do it? Forget about it quickly. Horror movies from Little Japan and some Hong Kong and even South Korea are often subconscious and persistent horrors. Not only do they get cold when they watch them, but sometimes they feel uneasy after watching them for a few days. There are also some horror movies that I rarely watch, and I often avoid them deliberately. They are the gloomy perverted horrors like "Funny Games".
Speaking of "Saw", it also belongs to the horror of perverts, but the pictures are bloody and direct, with popcorn and suspense elements, so it is not "depressing" enough. The film actually looks "fresh" and natural. The closest Hollywood movies I have seen that are both depressing and perverted like "Funny Games" should be Rob Zombie's two houses of thousands of corpses ("House of 1000 Corpses" and "The Devil's Rejects").
This kind of film shows the pure evil, the good people in the film, or ordinary people, are completely helpless in the face of evil, and all are lambs to be slaughtered. The hateful thing is that the audience, we ourselves, have to go through the same torture time and time again with the victims in the film. These "fun" games, in fact, are not only uninteresting, they are completely infinite distortions of the inexplicable perpetrators and the infinite helplessness of the victims. If the shooting of Funny Games is to achieve this extremely perverted and boring purpose, it has really been achieved.
Although the storytelling of the film is slow, it completely achieves the effect of suppressing emotions. Although the suspense of the story is not very strong, the turning points and clues in the narration often come unprepared, just like the bloodiest scene in the same depressing work "Caché" by this director Michael Haneke. I've seen it very unfortunately-I watched it admiring Juliette Binoche and countless awards, but I was so depressed and disgusted for several days, and now I still think of it from time to time on the still picture line after line without line breaks. The cast and crew, countless carefully near-static shots like Funny Games, the sudden bloody scene, and the sluggish expressions of the protagonists.
When it comes to Funny Games pervert, there is another place where the bad guys actually talk to the audience through the screen-it is the so-called "Breaking the Fourth Wall" in the drama (literally translated "Breaking the Fourth Wall", professionals should not shoot). For example, if the kid wants to do something bad, he suddenly turned his head and looked at the camera and asked the person (that's us) outside the screen: "What do you think?"
MD, I have seen shameless people, I have never seen such shameless people, ha ha.
This kind of interaction between the bad guys and the audience was followed by a jaw-dropping extended performance, which made people ft. sweating 10,000 times. The trend of the plot from this made me want to slap myself a few times. The effect is so, so of course it can't be disclosed here. Those who are interested will know after reading it.
My favorite actress, Naomi Watts, once again contributed her admirable acting skills. Among them, she and her husband played by Tim Roth in a 10-minute long still shot with extremely depressing emotions are amazing. Naomi is actually one of the two executive producers of this film. In addition, the disgusting guilt face of the young Michael Pitt is impressive.
In my impression, the photography technique is exactly the same as the "Cache", which is a careful, almost static camera, which is the other extreme when compared to the handheld ones. In addition, the lens moved away from the location of the incident (or did not follow the incident/character) seems to avoid the details, but the sound in the background makes people pay more attention to these details: such a technique may be harmful to students who do not like it. It feels very boring, but in my opinion it is quite interesting.
So, this film-in terms of the quality of the film alone-is actually very successful.
But the problem is that the theme of the film is too sinful and unacceptable. Even if I admire Naomi Watts, even if there are a lot of shots of her wearing underwear in the film (when I was tortured, she was too sexy to make me too BT), I still advise students who are not hard-bodied and stand on the opposite side of depression. We need to think carefully before watching this film.
