Coming from the other side of the sea...

Where do we come from, and where are we going? Asked a million times, and again a million times. There are so many beautiful legends and future myths gathered here! Having watched this approachable film, I can't help but think of Nausicaa, a girl in Miyazaki's Nausicaa.
There are four reasons that attracted me to watch this film:
the collision between a remote and mysterious Maori on the east coast of New Zealand and the current society can satisfy my curiosity and thinking about exploring a lost civilization.
The wonderful interpretation and interpretation of a simple and natural little actor are often more convincing as they are more real. Is the Oscar nomination for best actress a story or her magic?
The story of the sea is always full of imagination, like Luke Besson's "Blue Sea and Blue Sky" Alejandro "My Heart is Like the Sea" Kevin Costner's "Future Water World".
I also want to see if the young actors will actually appear on a whale.
After watching it, it was like listening to grandma telling a warm story in front of a wall fire.

Very artistic and romantic. With warmth from beginning to end, the culture that has been passed down from generation to generation and the collision of a new generation of life, the fusion of the original and the current atmosphere, the little girl has the courage and tenacity in her bones, my favorite is that she climbs on the whale The wound on the back stroking the whale is really delicate and I like it very much.

It’s rare that my mother watched a small drama movie that didn’t feel bored but was very emotional.

Whale Rider quotes

  • Koro: If you have the tooth of a whale, you must have the jaw of a whale to yield it.

  • [first lines]

Paikea: In the old days, the land felt a great emptiness. It was waiting. Waiting to be filled up. Waiting for someone to love it. Waiting for a leader.

    [child birth scene]

Paikea: And he came on the back of a whale. A man to lead a new people. Our ancestor, Paikea. But now we were waiting for the firstborn of the new generation, for the descendant of the whale rider. For the boy who would be chief.

Paikea: There was no gladness when I was born. My twin brother died, and took our mother with him.
