A Brave New World-AVATAR's Initial Impressions

Today is the internal media field of China Film and Fox. Tomorrow I will meet with Zhan Shen for an interview (I guess there is no chance to ask questions, countless media all over the country are chasing this)
AVATAR I have introduced 3 or 4 times in my magazine, since a year ago I started to pay attention, and it should be said that there are few movies that can truly shock me visually and on the screen. So looking at it, it really doesn't have the excitement that was the first time I saw Star Wars or the Lord of the Rings.
However, this is the most authentic science fiction movie I have watched in recent years. The entire Pandora's world is so real and detailed-think about it carefully, it seems that there has never been a science fiction film that can fully present a different world.
From this point of view, Avatar is really very, very amazing (James rules!!!). I don't think the first third of the film is dull at all. I really like to follow Jack to explore this planet and the world of na'vi people. When I first saw Na'vi people, I might feel a little bit of cg, but Cameron set them to have smooth skin, I think it was intentional, not because of a technical attempt to simplify. Soon, you will feel that they are real creatures, real "aliens", and you won't think about CG or CG at all. Throughout the film, the use of special effects is extremely natural and true, and it is immersive, almost without any flaws-I still often see obvious traces of special effects in the Lord of the Rings, which is easy to make people play, such as Gandalf falling from the bridge After going down, when the Fellowship came out of the hole, it was obvious that people were pasting another layer of images. In this film, even if there are hundreds of na'vi people together, or hundreds of banshee flying in the air, you don’t have to worry at all, because you can’t see anything copied, you can’t see far away. Na'vi people are obviously more false than close ones.
The entire Pandora's world, no matter the animals, plants, landscapes, are presented extremely vividly and beautifully in front of your eyes, it really seems to open the door to another world for you. Compared with Avatar, you will feel how stiff and deliberate the special effects of 2012 or Transformers are. In the future, I would like to claim how difficult it will be to play a special effects blockbuster. Avatar set up is a peak of technology and effect combination-just like the Lord of the Rings, they are full of emotions, not wanton display. technology.
In addition, I don't think the story of Avatar is old, simple, or profound enough. If you use a literature analogy, Avatar, like Star Wars, is actually folk literature, fairy tales, not novels. Many contemporary moviegoers are too accustomed to fictional modern narratives. They are accustomed to complicated and entangled stories. To search for metaphysical meaning and revelatory value judgments, I like the kind of plot full of contradictions and conflicts, and the hidden stories behind countless possible referents. But Avatar, like Star Wars, is a "source story" story, an extremely simple, primitive, and typed motif. Folk tales or storytelling are like this. Their ideas cannot be as complex and profound as Borges’ novels, but they cannot be said to be shallow or uninspiring at all. The narrative of the entire Avatar is very clean and clear, and the rhythm is quite good-the first half of the rhythm of the Titanic is actually a bit dull and slow. As the story progresses, you will naturally stand on the position of the na'vi people-this is the advantage of the distinction between good and evil like folk tales, otherwise the audience's position will become very hesitant and confused. Regarding the theme of the film, I don't want to do any analysis, I think it is completely unnecessary. The film is not as deep as possible. This story is very exciting, it is enough to impress me. The final battle was so exciting, I was fully engaged!
In the end, I think the most remarkable thing about Cameron is that he made this movie full of feelings. There is nothing excessive and extreme. Cameron has always given me the feeling of a craftsman. This is not derogatory. He is like a skilled craftsman in ancient times, and his works are very exquisite and beautiful. I like movies like Avatar that can take you to another world. It makes me look forward to and confident in the future of the movie!
Pandora is a dream, and Cameron presents his dream so real to us, and I thank him for sharing it.

Avatar quotes

  • Jake Sully: [collector's extended cut] You want a fair deal? You're on the wrong planet. The strong prey on the weak, it's just the way things are. And nobody does a damned thing.

  • Corporal Lyle Wainfleet: [seeing Jake in a wheelchair] Aww, man, that is just wrong.
