Both Marumi and Baseball Boy represent escape and relief from reality.
Ma Lumei represents virtual happiness, people are immersed and paralyzed in the healing brought by the simple and childish cartoon, and there is also a false past world like it brought to the sheriff; the baseball boy is a delusion that people can't bear the various pressures of the real world. Get people out with a bat strike, maybe amnesia/maybe death.
However, the story didn't end in the end, Ma Lumei and the baseball boy disappeared, and there will be new Ma Lumei and the baseball boy. As long as the world is still that world, that complicated, impetuous, virtual world that people can't escape from.
Sadly, so is our reality.
