City of Life and Death

The yellowed old photos tell the history.
The picture beats very slowly, as if it will bring people into a heavy emotion at the beginning.
This is like the beginning of a documentary, thinking that the black and white glue at the beginning is only temporary, who knows that it
runs through and sets the tone of the film. The depression from beginning to end may have something to do with the color tone.
In 1937, Nanjing was already a dangerous city, and the army had evacuated. The rest of the powerless people continued to wait for no result. In front of the city wall, the united army was waiting in full force. Liu Ye was particularly eye-catching inside, and the expression of grief and indignation did not seem to be a performance. Sadly, they were not facing the Japanese army, but a group of soldiers hoping to escape from the city to survive. This tragic scene ended with the successful escape of the survivors.
This is the initial shock that the film brought me, a battle of life and death, vividly and vividly in this decadent ancient city. I like its English translation "City of Life and Death", the city of life and death. At the same time, the opening scene made me understand the director's position. Lu Chuan wanted to make a historical film with a breakthrough. Standing on the watershed between the two countries, he restored history with a relatively objective and fair perspective. It was not made into a film that justifies Japan, nor was it made into a political film with a strong nationalism. This makes me think that spending 40 yuan to go to the theater to see it is worth it!
It was followed by a fierce gun battle after the Japanese army entered the city. Young soldiers, coming to a foreign land, everything is full of curiosity, but more of fear. War has made people lose their ability to think normally. A large church was crowded with Chinese women and children, but they all raised their hands of surrender to a few Japanese soldiers. This reminds me of the legendary story that a Japanese soldier can control a Chinese village. In the city, the few remaining stragglers are still holding on to the last position. Finally, unable to resist anymore, Liu Ye looked at everyone and said solemnly: "I can't hold it anymore, brothers, let's go~" This was also like his only line.
There are also impressive lines in the film, and
many prisoners of war shouted "Long live China, China will not die!"
In order to protect most people, the Rabe Refuge sent 100 women, Jiang Yiyan was the first
Raising his hand, he said indifferently: "I'm going!"

After experiencing the cruelty of the war, several Japanese soldiers couldn't help shouting: "I want to go back to Japan!"
Rabe was resisted by many parties and had to Returning to China, before leaving, he knelt down and apologized: "I'M SORRY!"
Mr. Tang, who was going to leave with Rabe, finally left the opportunity to Rabe's assistant. Knowing in the heart that it would be a goodbye, Qin Lan said with tears in her eyes, "
Nongzi, Gaqie, be careful." Before Mr. Tang was executed, he half-madly and half-stupidly said to the officer, "You know, my wife is pregnant again. My wife is pregnant again..."

Teacher Jiang was caught by the superior, and she made the most humble plea to Kadokawa: "shoot me!"

Kadokawa came to the comfort station to find Yuriko to give him warmth, but she was already dead. Kadokawa was dumb, but said dumbly, "Yuriko, she used to be my wife."

Perhaps it was the death of Yuriko, the death of Teacher Jiang, which made Kadokawa, a once young and innocent soldier, unable to bear everything brought about by the war. . In a grand ceremony of sacrificing spirits, the Japanese soldiers mourned the dead. The Japanese dance and the Japanese drum festival struck the tightest string in people's hearts. The close-up has been lingering in Kadokawa's eyes, which exudes a kind of entanglement and sadness, but also a kind of dazed and lost. In a foreign land, he lost the truth and goodness of human nature, blurring the meaning of life and death.
In the end, he rescued Xiaodouzi and his son, and sighed deeply: "It is harder to live than to die."

In a dandelion flower, he raised his gun, ended his life, and fell into a dandelion. And Xiaodouzi and his son gradually woke up from the surprise and stunned. They ran wild, collected dandelions, and blew them into the distance. This symbolizes the seeds of hope, scattered in the innocent smile of children. Life and death, at this moment in opposition to each other, are in fact a fusion.
At the end, there are old photos again. Every three-dimensional character is displayed, and the dates of birth and death are detailed, which makes people feel the truth of this history. And the last meaningful sentence is "Xiaodouzi, still alive today."

It was late at night by the end of the film, and my thoughts were up and down. Even though there are many tragic scenes and deep emotions in the film, I have no desire to cry. This is a deep feeling in the stagnant chest, and I can't find an outlet to express it, because everything is too real.

The director's use of black and white is really thoughtful. So many bloody pictures, just imagine how you can bear it? The tragic scene of blood-stained rivers and corpses lying everywhere, what kind of visual impact, what kind of humiliation and humiliation of young girls, women and children being ravaged by the Japanese army, how disgusting the hanging human heads and naked corpses are.
I don't think I can take it.
History has passed, and during those years, no one could claim to be the victor. As in the confrontation between life and death, no one can give a fair answer. So, those who are alive, open your heart a little bit.
The reason why I like this movie is that I am not an extreme nationalist, and mature thinking allows me to judge historical reality. And what the director presents is also an interpretation of reality. Don't conclude, because no one can give a conclusion.
This is not a good movie review, but it expresses a little bit of my thoughts. After seeing a movie that resonates, I especially want to say a few words.
