Never give up thinking, that is the essence of being a "person" and the meaning of life

I finished reading Hannah Arendt's "Eichmann in Jerusalem" yesterday and the movie "Hannah Arendt" last night. I believe that for a long time, Arendt's thoughts and her experiences will continue to inspire me to keep thinking independently, no matter what people say. It's really absurd. In this world, individuals who are good at thinking but have no malicious expressions are criticized by thousands of people, while people who are lazy in thinking and full of maliciousness are filled with righteous indignation.

But a big thinker like Arendt, even if she is accused by thousands of people, still left a precious wealth of thought to the world. And if most ordinary people learn from her persistence, it is very likely that life will be very hard, and they will be unhappy after being abused by many people, and they will not leave any traces of their past in this world. This is the sadness of ordinary people. So, should I still learn Arendt?

Of course, thinking is still very important to many ordinary people. Although thinking can bring people unhappiness, it must be very interesting. I used to think that people live to be happy, but they were very happy when the Nazis were in full swing, and the Red Wei soldiers were also very happy when they successfully attacked one "rightist" after another. So, what do people live for? Perhaps, thinking about the question itself is the answer. Because you are still thinking about the definition of the meaning of life, because you are careful enough not to define your own life easily, so it is not easy for others, a group or organization to help you define it.

  • Hans Jonas: But Eichmann is a monster. And when I say monster, I don't mean Satan. You don't need to be smart or powerful to behave like a monster.
