Before watching The Half of It, come to this movie to experience some elements in Director Wu's film, such as the vending machine, a group of people eating awkwardly, and the protagonist's nerd character (Wil in front of the vending machine) I laughed when I said that snack had a lot of carcinogens). Lamenting the next two heroines...Wil's nerd-like temperament is very cute, Vivian's words...every gesture is amorous.
When watching this movie, I followed the protagonist to suppress and laugh, which was expressed in a continuous and exaggerated way among the parents of the American Chinese community. Although the Chinese in the dialogue is not particularly natural, the content is probably true (after all, gossip is just that kind of thing). When I was in secondary school, my attitude towards "face" was basically a casual joke. I remember making some strange words with my classmates in my freshman year of high school. We agreed that the English word for "shameless" should be "faceless", while "having face" could be expressed as "faceful". So if I watched this movie a few years ago, I probably would have felt more angry than I did. x When I grew up, I would try to understand the feelings of the people being discussed more seriously than before, instead of just using a simple sentence "Don't care about other people's opinions" comes to the conclusion. After all, after thinking about their environment and personalities, this reaction is very reasonable. Wil's mother's words "I want him to have the courage to be public" and the kiss Wil owes Vivian at the airport are probably all about saving face. The process of desensitizing people's emotions to other people's opinions is indeed worth scrutinizing (in the future, there may be time to think about what is worth learning from). I found that I really eat the scene where the protagonist treats other people as a passing glance and only stares at one person walking towards him (the scene near the end reminds me of Carol). Because of this scene I decided to give the movie 5 stars.
Watching this movie on Mother's Day is really unique. I may experience more things as I grow older. I hope I can face and deal with everything better.
Recalling that I always had a "deliberate feeling of bitterness and hatred" of Queer Movie throughout my teenage years (maybe I was shocked by the depressing content as a teenager), this kind of comedy movie is quite enjoyable to watch. In an interview, a certain author said that he hoped that Queer Movie would have more "stupid happy endings", and I felt the same. (Happy Ending, which is not stupid in this movie, is also very good. After all, it is worth celebrating if everyone chooses not only for face)
