——Analysis of "Listening Girl" from an emotional point of view
Today, the film has grown like a vine in the watershed of high culture and popular culture, and he has even begun to change the cultural history. At the 2022 Academy Awards, which ended at the end of March, the best picture was awarded to a healing movie-"The Hearing Girl". It is worth mentioning that the supporting actor Troy Kotsur is also the father of the heroine, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for this film, and he is a real deaf person. After watching the entire film, it was difficult for me to perceive the display of skills, but the delicate emotions made me unforgettable for a long time. The film interprets what love is from a broader perspective. Below I will express my views from three dimensions.
1. Mutual parental love
The heroine Ruby's parents are both hearing-impaired, but the two have a steadfast and unswerving love. And the bold depiction of sex abroad makes us feel like they are no different from normal people. However, working at sea, because of the inability to hear the radio and the inability to respond in a timely manner, has resulted in revocation of business licenses and huge fines. The helplessness of being at the bottom of the society, the sadness welled up in my heart. When faced with the question of whether to continue fishing for a living or support a child's dream. All this quietly rambling in a concert. My mother listened to the concert with intoxication, but my father found out that the music can move people to tears. In the middle of the night, the father touched Ruby's neck and felt the vibration of his daughter's vocal cords. Even if he couldn't read lips, he was moved to tears. Here, it is easy for the audience to think of their own parents. I'm thinking that family members are indeed both a weakness and an armor.
Two, like-minded teachers and students
Fortunately, Ruby, who loves music, met the Bole teacher in her life, Mr.V. Ruby took that brave step to sign up for the choir, and I seemed to see her one step closer to her dream. However, in the face of the strange eyes from her classmates, she still couldn't stand her inferiority complex, and she ran out of the classroom. At that moment, I couldn't help but feel sorry, but fortunately she met a Bole teacher. The discerning teacher realized Ruby's singing talent and decided to tutor her in singing and music theory for free. When faced with the dilemma of being the only "translator" in the family and learning to sing, Ruby's musical dream came to an abrupt end after being late again and again. At a critical juncture in my interview at Berklee College of Music, Mr.V appeared to accompany her in a timely manner, encouraging me to breathe a sigh of relief. It's like a painter who wants to paint a three-dimensional painting of a building, he will process the part that interests him most. As a result, when we realize that this is an art form, we forget the building itself, and when we watch a movie, we want to understand different aspects of the building. At this point, the film brings us back to the object itself.
3. Youthful love
Because of an unintentional gesture, because of an inadvertent misunderstanding, the two young people had the experience of "no fight, no acquaintance". This love affair reminds me of a sentence from the movie "Booming Heart": People are like rainbows, and they will know when they meet. The meaning of this sentence is that some people are shallow, and some people are golden and jaded, but they are lost in it. One day you will meet a rainbow-like person, and when you meet this person, you will feel that other people are just clouds. When Ruby was swimming in the lake with Miles in the only moment of "freeing herself", she forgot the fetters and restraints of the outside world. After removing all social relations, she felt the beauty of youth and love in the wild far away from the hustle and bustle. The fantastic fairy tale colors in the film make us believe that all people can have equal love.
"Voice" as an opportunity for a series of conflicts constitutes a two-way barrier for Ruby to live an ordinary girl's life and a harmonious family life, and it is also an interaction barrier between the deaf and the normal person. This kind of handicapped family born at birth makes us reflect more, can this society treat them equally? Perhaps in those countless silent worlds there is a little-known powerful voiced answer.
