One day in 1927, Lu Xun wrote a paragraph on his desk.

"A man downstairs was sick to death, and the family in the wall was singing a gramophone; on the opposite side was a kid. Upstairs there were two people laughing wildly; and playing cards. There was a woman in a boat in the river crying for her dead mother. The joys and sorrows of mankind. It doesn't work out, I just think they're noisy."

This passage was later included in the "Just Collection".

In 2013, Stephen Chow made a movie. In the movie, demons are rampant, and human beings are miserable. Later, Xuanzang subdued the demons and led them to the Western Heaven to seek the truth.

Stephen Chow used this film to tell us that the joys and sorrows of human beings can be connected . The premise is that we have suffered the hardships that others have suffered and the sins that others have suffered.

This movie is "Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons". From Xuanzang's experience, we can see the history of spiritual growth of thousands of people.

1. Without empathy, it is impossible to understand the meaning of life

At the beginning of the movie, fish demons often eat people, and the fishermen are panicked.

The fake Taoist Changxing performed a ritual ceremony, and after that, a fish corpse surfaced on the water, and everyone cheered. At this moment, Xuanzang suddenly appeared and warned everyone seriously: The fish demon is not dead, and the danger still exists.

Xuanzang's words caused public anger. A sister-in-law walked out of the crowd, pointed at Xuanzang and asked, "Have you ever died of a husband?" Xuanzang held her hand and said with a complicated expression: "Sister-in-law, I don't have a husband." The sister-in-law didn't seem to hear it. He continued to ask, "Have you ever had a husband die?" Xuanzang replied helplessly, "Sister-in-law, believe me, I really don't have a husband."

This conversation, coming and going, seems funny, but actually has a lot of meaning.

Xuanzang was a man and could not have a husband. Sister-in-law is not blind, of course she knows that. Then why does she still ask that? In fact, her subtext was: My husband was eaten by the fish demon, and you even said that the fish (which had been beaten to death by the Taoist priest) was innocent. What is your conscience ! ?

Xuanzang said "I don't have a husband" twice. He just answered the question literally, but he didn't understand the meaning of the sister-in-law at all.

Sister-in-law spoke very clearly, but Xuanzang could not understand. At this time, he was in the stage of ear blindness.

Here, Xuanzang has sympathy for his sister-in-law, but no empathy.

Sympathy and empathy, although the words are different, have far different meanings . Sympathy refers to seeing the pain of others and triggering one's own compassion, which implies condescension. Empathy means being able to listen carefully to what the other person has to say, put oneself in the other person's shoes, and empathize with the pain of others. Empathetic people put themselves in the same position as others, not condescending.

At this time, Xuanzang was not deeply involved in the world. He only learned the surface of Buddhism, but he has not yet grasped the essence. Therefore, in the face of his sister-in-law's loss of her husband, he could not feel the same.

Xuanzang wanted to slay demons and demons and destroy evil for the people. He didn't know that the biggest demon in the world exists only in the human heart. Xuanzang himself had demons. That inner demon is because he refuses to face the fact that "I am a mortal person, and I am a mortal person with seven emotions and six desires".

2. True growth lies in the unity of body and mind

After the little girl was eaten by the fish demon, Xuanzang felt very guilty.

Later, he fell into a strong self-doubt. He cried and asked his master, "I know nothing, have you found the wrong person?" click."

When Master said "a little bit", he meant that there was a disagreement between the heart and the tongue.

Xuanzang's discordance was subconscious, and he didn't know it himself. For example, when Master picked up the goose leg and feasted on it, he clearly wanted to eat it, but he said, "Master, we are monks, you are doing it wrong."

For another example, when Miss Duan asked him to help press the acupoints on her shoulders, he wanted to help, but was afraid of breaking the precept, so he had to press the acupoints while turning his face away. As a result, when he turned his face again, two lines of nosebleeds spewed out, full of joy.

This is exactly the sentence: the mouth says no, but the body is very honest.

At that moment, Xuanzang fell in love with Miss Duan. Miss Duan was also deeply attracted by Xuanzang's righteousness and fell in love with Xuanzang. She closed her eyes and asked Xuanzang for a kiss. This scene came so suddenly that Xuanzang was quite frightened. In the end, he became a deserter of love, and ran away with crawling and rolling.

Xuanzang repeatedly emphasized: "There is little love between men and women, and it has nothing to do with me. I want to practice for the great love of the world." This kind of attachment made him blind.

In Lotus Cave, Miss Duan failed in courtship and left sadly. Looking at Miss Duan's back, the monkey demon said, "Miss Duan's figure is really good!" Xuanzang asked, "How did you know that?" The monkey replied, "I saw it with my eyes." Xuanzang asked again, "" Why didn't I see it?" The monkey demon replied, " Because your eyes are blind ."

The truth is clearly in front of you, but you can never see the truth. At this time, Xuanzang was not only deaf, but also blind.

True growth is the oneness of mind and body . Master said several times that Xuanzang was "almost a little bit", but what he said was that he had a different heart.

Xuanzang has always lived a very twisted life. While he was proud of being an exorcist, he kept denying himself in his heart; while emphasizing that he had no lust, he also fell in love with Miss Duan. The fire of desire was burning in his heart, and the more it burned, the more prosperous it was. He repeatedly stressed that he had no lust, but was suppressing his true self.

Socrates said: "Know yourself!" Knowing oneself is a lifetime's homework. True self-identity means knowing exactly who you are and loving who you are. Erickson, a psychologist, believes that in the process of growing up, people will gradually understand themselves through constant choices, and eventually gain self-identity. The result of self-identification is oneness of mind and body.

A person with different hearts can't really grow. For example, Xuanzang, who was blind and deaf.

3. Love can heal all the pain in the world

Miss Duan wants to find a good husband, get married and have children, and live an ordinary life. And her wishful husband is Xuanzang.

However, Miss Duan's affectionate confession was exchanged for Xuanzang's look of contempt. He even gritted his teeth and said, "Psychopath!"

Does Xuanzang love Miss Duan? Of course love!

Once, when Miss Duan pretended to be dead, Xuanzang held her in his arms and cried bitterly. Miss Duan said ecstatically, "You still don't admit that you love me?" At that moment, Xuanzang's inner demon quietly retreated. For the first time, he acquiesced that he had lust.

On the night of the full moon, Miss Duan danced alone in white under the moonlight, and it seemed that Xuanzang was about to get drunk. After subduing the Pig Demon, Miss Duan put the Wuding Flying Ring on Xuanzang's ring finger. The indeterminate flying ring took root, Xuanzang raised a big stone and said, "I don't want to marry you, I can't take off this ring, I don't want this finger!"

At this time, Xuanzang was not only blind, but also blind. He loves Miss Duan deeply, but dare not admit it. He felt that once he admitted that he had lust, it was tantamount to admitting that he was not worthy of being an exorcist. And this is something he absolutely cannot accept.

th.

Before Ms. Duan left, she presented the broken "Three Hundred Children's Songs". On the cover of the book, there is a big word " love " printed on it. It was made by her heart .

After walking out of the Lotus Cave, Xuanzang saw a bright moon, and Miss Duan's figure reappeared in front of him. In an instant, he was dejected.

At the end of the movie, Miss Duan died under the palms of the monkey demon, and her soul turned into fireworks. Xuanzang looked up at the sky and burst into tears. At this time, he truly felt the pain in his heart when his sister-in-law lost her husband, and only then did he truly understand the meaning of life.

Also from this moment on, Xuanzang had no worries in his heart. Facing the monkey demon, he meditated on the spot and started chanting. Later, the Buddha appeared and subdued the monkey demon.

This scene is exactly what is said in the "Heart Sutra": "The heart has no obstacles, no obstacles, so there is no terror, far from the upside-down dream, and finally Nirvana. "

At this time, Xuanzang had changed from a person who was blind in ears, eyes, and heart to a truly enlightened person with compassion.

In his heart, the love of all beings is love, there is no difference between big and small, and there is no difference between male and female. Xuanzang's enlightenment was bought by Miss Duan's life. That's why he said: "Only when you have had pain can you know the suffering of sentient beings. When you have had attachments, you can let go of your attachments; when you have worries, you can be free from worries. "

At this time, Xuanzang finally made up the "little bit" by himself. It is precisely because of this that he has the qualification to go to the West to learn scriptures.

How much suffering does a person have to endure before he can empathize with the suffering of others?

How brave does a person need to be to calmly accept the true self?

How many roads does a person have to travel to find the direction of life?

In the movie, Xuanzang gave the answer.

There are no perfect people in the world. There are many people who pursue perfection, and various mental illnesses appear. Everyone is a body of flesh and blood, and they have to go through birth, old age, sickness and death, and learn to face the true self calmly, accept the true self calmly, and embrace the true self calmly.

Lu Xun said that the joys and sorrows of human beings are not connected. While writing this sentence, he also faithfully recorded the various living conditions of his neighbors. This just proves that he empathizes with the suffering of others. Besides, if there is no compassion for the world, how could he have written "Blessing".

Stephen Chow used a seemingly absurd story to tell a thought-provoking fact: human emotions are the same. Dare to face the true self, in order to become a real hero. Until then, even the Buddha will help you.

In fact, Lu Xun and Zhou Xingchi are the same kind of people. In their eyes, there are all beings. They have great love in their hearts.
