Westworld Season 2 Episode 4 (Reprinted and deleted for infringement)

Many fans of the drama have referenced the brain hole conjecture of [Future World] :

The purpose of Westworld is to replace real human beings with robots that replicate human appearances, so as to control the world!

And last week, Inspector, when I analyzed Westworld, I concluded:

Continuation of life ( commonly known as +1S)

Utilize the ability of the immortal body of the robot to evolve or break the limitations of the human body, so as to live forever...

Unexpectedly, the fourth episode will be directly fulfilled-

west world

Season 2: Mystery of the Sphinx

Westworld Season2 The Riddle of the Sphinx

The fourth episode opens the [Westworld] filling climax:

The hidden secrets of Westworld are revealed, that is, beyond making robots, the Delos company also begins to replicate humans...

Human Experiment: Copying Father-in-Law

The first paragraph of this episode features James ' life:

Sports, listening to music, eating, jetting...

But there is always something wrong!

But in fact, this man who is no different from James is actually a robot built by William after his late father-in-law...

After William took over Delos and took the helm of Westworld, his father-in-law James died, so he copied James...

To put it bluntly, it is to continue life in disguise!

However, the experiments with the replicas have never been successful:

The conversation in the lab is repeated three times…

The duplicant repeats the same dialogue every time, although the duplicant has human background memory, but cannot escape the program...

(The report is printed with a copy of James' lines)

Even when we met for the third time, William was already old...

Seeing that he has changed from a young man to an old man, the copied father-in-law has not overcome the flaws, and decades of experiments have only yielded...

The normal operation also increased from 7 days to 35 days only!

Although the copying of James failed, it can be seen from William's words that there has been a major breakthrough in replicator technology...

Fragmented Memories: Bernard's Quest

In this episode, Bernard's story is extended, and he joins the missing Elsie after being knocked out by Clementine ...

(The girl who was beaten by Bernard and still has lingering fears...)

Bernard follows the broken memories to find the secret laboratory...

Coincidentally, this is the laboratory of the clone James, and even the already crazy clone James is still locked in it!

After witnessing these scenes, Bernard's shattered memories gradually come together:

He once came to the secret laboratory under the control of Ford, and instructed the white receptionist to eliminate all the experimental personnel...

The most crucial details:

Here he made a control unit that replicates a human!

He claims that he used to be under Ford's control, and now he can choose to win Elsie...

But Inspector, I feel that Bernard is hiding more secrets!

Game Continues: The Redemption of Old William

Old William is still cracking the game Ford left for him...

Lawrence took William back to his hometown, but unfortunately encountered a gangster who slipped away from Demei, and everyone was controlled.

In the end, Lian not only used the gang to get the firearm, but also rescued Lawrence's family and the residents of the town...

Why did the man in black suddenly become a good man?

There are no so-called good people and bad people in [Westworld]!

Old William just wanted to continue the game, like Lawrence's daughter accused William in Ford's tone:

One good thing cannot change your nature!

But at the end of the episode, old William meets new character Grace...

Last episode I also leaned towards this woman as William's daughter!

However, because the name is different from the girl Emily who appeared before, the exact identity of Grace could not be confirmed...

Who knew that when they saw Old William, they would call him Dad directly!

Although the mouth is called Dad, but it is not necessarily a touching father and daughter reunion...

Because William's wife committed suicide for him, the daughter's attitude toward her father may not be entirely trusting.

(This dad has a kind of "but he found you" feeling...)

It is estimated that many fans and detectives feel the same way:

Thank goodness, [Westworld] finally took some ink to fill the hole!

Many of the details and information in it can also connect the conjectures passed down by the fans of the show, and I suddenly breathed a sigh of relief...

(If you want to give up the drama, I can pull it back for you)

Conjecture ①: The William and James deal

In S02E02 William had the following dialogue with his father-in-law James.

Obviously, James, who was seriously ill at the time, couldn't wait, and what he was waiting for was the technology of immortalizing the body with the robot...

This is also one of the reasons why William successfully took over the power of the family!

Through the dialogue between William and the replicant James, we can see that:

(Why is it like doing a proof question...)

James still failed to continue his life during his lifetime, and after his death, he was resurrected using Westworld's technology, and he also failed repeatedly.

Even the elderly William later regretted the experiment...

Although the replicator technology has not been recognized by William, it may have won the favor of other forces, and the board of directors has intervened...

William realized that the board of directors had an ulterior motive and wanted to destroy Westworld.

(The directors may be conspirators who want to replace humans)

As Inspector I said in my analysis last week:

After experiencing life changes, he realized the essence of human beings...

The immortality property of robots is not suitable for humans, so he regrets his attempt to immortalize humans.

Conjecture ②: Humans and robots have merged

The hardest thing to answer after watching two seasons of [Westworld] is:

"Who is human and who is robot?"

After all, the screenwriter has been pitted a lot, and everyone looks like a robot...

And the clues in this episode are responding to this conundrum:

Humans and robots may have merged!

Charlotte was suspected of being a robot in the first episode, and she was only confirmed as human after scanning her neck with a device...

And the prostitute thinks that his authority is against the sky, but he can't control the Indians.

The identity verification by the instrument says that the robot is hard to tell the authenticity, and Maeve's permission encounters a bug, which means that the robot system has more than one set...

The conclusion may be in the fourth episode:

In fact, the receptionists in the park are different...

In the first season, it was mentioned that Arnold's first generation of more than 40 robots differed from the later receptionists.

And replicants are even more different from ordinary receptionists!

The most intuitive is that their control units are not the same...

Ordinary robots are white, while replicas are red, so what the prostitute can't control may be the red replicators!

Perhaps there are few pure human beings, and most human beings have embraced replication technology, or semi-robot technology...

Thereby becoming a new human being after the so-called " evolution" !

Conjecture ③: The ultimate contradiction in the second season of Westworld

At this moment, recall the content of the first season of [Westworld]:

Those ten episodes are actually about robots...

How were they created, how did they encounter reincarnation, and how did they break human control and become a new force in the end!

The second season is about telling the story of human beings...

They look at themselves through the Westworld, and try to use robots to achieve the folly of human immortality.

The robot story belongs to old Ford.

With the two lines of Demei's violent animal nature and Maeve's maternal love, he makes robots approach the human world...

And the story of humanity belongs to William.

He sacrificed his father-in-law, wife, brother-in-law, daughter, and even his entire family to complete his pursuit...

(Eternal life is actually an attempt to deceive the devil)

Therefore, the so-called "door", "weapon", and "place of glory" are the confluence of the robot and human storylines represented by Ford and William:

Will humans be replaced by robots?

Episode 4 borrows an allusion from "Mystery of the Sphinx" :

In Greek mythology, the Sphinx sat on the cliff of Thebes to stop passers-by. Only by answering his puzzles correctly could he save his life...

And this puzzle is a household name:

what animal walks on four legs in the morning

walk on two legs at noon

walk on three legs at night

The more legs you have, the slower you walk and the weaker your stamina

This puzzle is not difficult, it is easy to guess...

But the philosophical thought contained in this puzzle is not simple, it implies the ancients' consideration of self-cognition .

The Sphinx puzzles seem to describe human beings, but they are actually reflections on human self-knowledge, that is, what should people be like?

In Greek mythology, similar fables often appear...

Even in the Delphi temple of the sun god Apollo, there is a similar expression of the motto "Mortal, know yourself"

Temple of Delphi, Greece

And the desire for immortality has forgotten what it is!

Perhaps the birth, old age, sickness and death mentioned in the puzzle of the Sphinx is the original face of human beings, and it is the essence of human beings...

Like William said, people just like to reminisce.

It is also like the Indians reminding humans in English that only when they are forgotten is the real death...

(suddenly a little Disney [Coco] feeling)

Finally, there is a suspense left in this episode:

Who does the core of the replicant that Bernard helped to build for Ford belong to?

Detective, let me make an irresponsible guess here:

Perhaps this core is the current William in black, or even the real William has passed away...

Of course, this brain hole needs to continue to follow the drama to test it!

Lee Sizemore: I wrote that line for you.
