From the first time I saw the trailer, I was attracted by this cheap green fur monster. Later, I heard that the reputation of this movie in North America was not particularly good. But this green monster succeeded in attracting me with its funny appearance and cheap character. Decided to go to the cinema to find out.
Indeed, as a New Year's Eve movie in North America, it's really not a masterpiece, but it's still pretty good. (Aren't Chinese New Year's Eve movies particularly good?) The story does not have ups and downs, but the plot and end of the story have a touch of warmth. It may be a cartoon, so some of the jokes are quite rigid to me.
Yesterday I heard "Xiao Shuo" interviewing Zhang Yimou. To mention one point, the general meaning is that many people now judge whether a movie or a director is good, usually based on whether the story is told well. Divide directors into those who can tell stories and those who can't tell stories. But Gao Xiaosong and Zhang Yimou both thought otherwise. For film art, the story is only one part, and there are too many factors that can resonate with a film. It can be a story, it can be a lens, atmosphere, or even music. In fact, when I think about it, I rate movies like this a lot. For example, in "Journey to the West: The Kingdom of Women" at the beginning of the year, I also scored 3 stars. It's because of the timely and good music that touched me a lot. I also think that the star-filled "The Story of the Big Bad Fox" that I played this year is because of the simple style of painting, and the whole movie reveals a comfortable feeling.
So starting from this point, I still have a good feeling about this movie. The laugh is very innocent and the story is very concise. What stands out is the heart-warming emotion.
In particular, the production is indeed very good, the style of painting, and the use of colors are very high-level (after all, it is a product of lighting entertainment). In addition, the unlimited imagination of the production team is also commendable. In the spy movies in the past few years, the technology of the spy is getting lower and lower, which is not very attractive to me. Highly recommend this movie to them. The weapon in the section where Grinch stole things really opened my eyes, and it was also my favorite section. The smooth movements and the weapons opened by the brain are very cool to see. It's really a whimsical idea. Of course, Grinch’s bitch character, He Rouran's heart still attracts me the most.
Finally, the voice of Juan Fu (Benedict Cumberbatch) is very good and very nice.
