The stories told by Takahata have no obvious beginnings and turns, so there is no so-called transitional climax in ordinary movies.
Without exception, the plot is full of life. Even the beautiful fantasy "Heisei Tanuki War" still tells the social life of the civet cats in a large space.
This movie is very reminiscent of the later "Our Family", and the theme orientation and style of painting are very similar.
However, the difference is that Takahata's narration tends to be more peaceful and delicate.
"Our Family" has also had a theatrical version. If you compare it with this, you will find that "Our Family" is still a film with the same obvious succession and transformation as ordinary movies.
This is the personal style of a director.
For commercial movies, Takahata, who has always insisted on this narrative style, is really a bold and stubborn guy.
I've always imagined him as an old man with a quiet, undisturbed gaze.
This is my favorite animation director.
He always digs sparkling happiness from ordinary life.
Without sensational means, let people see the preciousness of life itself.
Life is precious, and each of us is precious.
