Quasimodo of New Bridge.
Carax turned the Pont Neuf into a Notre-Dame-like sanctuary. The character characterization is very beautiful. Compared with Quasimodo, Alex has more dark sides of his personality and is more like a real person.
One of my favorite details: The moment Alex shoots after seeing the Oublie-Moi handwriting left by Michelle, he says no one can teach him how to forget.
Forgetting here has a very ancient correspondence with falling asleep, just like in Borges's "Funes of Bo Wen Qiang Memorize", it is impossible to learn to forget and remember all the subtle Funes of the world, but it is deeply felt at night Insomnia is troubled because "sleep is to get rid of worries about the world". Likewise, Alex's inability to sleep is actually the same thing as his "no one taught him how to forget". Michelle thought she had taught Alex how to sleep on the body of her lover, but after she fell asleep, Alex still had insomnia and still secretly fell asleep on drugs, implying that Alex could never forget and never let go.
Finally, there are actually quite a few minor flaws throughout the film. For example, it's really hard for me to ignore Alex's Schrödinger lameness.
