In 2010, french director Eleonore shot her first short story Majorité opprimée ( Majorité opprimée ). After adding English subtitles, it gained widespread attention. Immediately, Netflix proposed to Eleonore to make it a feature-length film, which is also the first French film on Netflix.
The hero of the film steps into a world where gender roles are reversed. Women are bosses, firefighters, butchers, psychiatrists, men are home cooks at home, sexually harassed by female bosses in the workplace, commented or whistled by women on the road, and pole danced in nightclubs. Men have the obligation to be beautiful, wear super shorts, wear scarves, dance ballet, do yoga, make eye masks, and put a fart pad in their underwear to make the butt look more upturned. Men take maternity leave to take care of women when women have children. It is normal and understandable for women to cheat occasionally. Women's work proposals are more convincing than men's, and women writers have a confident femininity in their work, which naturally sells well. At gatherings of successful people, the elite from all walks of life are women, and men are usually the partners of these successful people on such occasions.
Every small character setting in the shot notices this gender reversal, which makes such a different world extraordinarily real. The only thing that makes me dance is that the world is not China. For the time being, Chinese women do not have to pluck the hair from the eyebrows to the feet to be accepted by the opposite sex. Few boys in China have the courage to strike up a conversation or verbally harass them.
