Lara is a fifteen-year-old middle school student, she loves ballet, she studies ballet in the best local ballet studio, she lives with her father and her six-year-old brother, she has one biggest difference compared to other classmates," She" is not really a "girl".
In fact, when I was watching this film, I once thought of Spielberg's "Artificial Intelligence". The protagonists of both films are eager to get rid of their current physical state, and then turn to another physical state to live. However, the difference is that the whole film of "Girl" is more restrained, more of a bystander's identity to record the physical and psychological changes of the protagonist, and the plot also starts from small details and tells it in a gentle way.
Although Lara is a boy, she has a "daughter heart" and she has been receiving hormone therapy. She joined the ballet company and studied ballet with a group of girls younger than her. I think she is lucky, because after she made the decision to "transgender", the family did not hate her for it, but chose to respect her decision and face her together. At the same time, her female classmates did not discriminate against her because of her gender, and did not mind sharing the dressing room with her.
Because she is past the best age to learn ballet, she has a lot more difficulty than others. She often hurts her feet due to long-term practice, but she will continue to practice uninterrupted each time.
In the film, there are many scenes of Lara looking in the mirror alone in the bedroom. Facing the naked self in the mirror, she looked straight at first, but then slowly lowered her head. A series of performances are also a reflection of her heart.
When I saw her sticking to her genitals with circles of tape, I was shocked and sympathized with her. Looking at the mirror in front of her, she tore off the tape that was adhering to her lower body little by little. The red mark left by the tape tearing in front of her was particularly eye-catching.
I remember a detail in the video. It was Lara who sent his younger brother to school. The kindergarten teacher asked Lara if she was his sister. She paused for a while, then smiled and said that she was. When she walked out the door, the corner of her mouth was raised with a smile, and at that moment, she seemed to be recognized by something.
When she and her classmates finished ballet practice and others went to take a shower, she never took a shower in public because of her special body structure. I couldn't stand the persuasion of my classmates over and over again. When I finally took a bath with others, I kept covering my genitals with my head down and didn't dare to look directly at other people, which was especially out of place compared to others.
She has always been kind to the people around her, using her behavior to influence those around her, and at the same time she has won everyone's respect.
At the end of the story, she used the scissors around her to stab her lower body. While eager to cut off her genitals, she also cut off the connection with the past invisibly, and reborn in a new way as a "girl". ....
I have to admit that Lara is beautiful. The beauty is in her appearance, and even more beautiful in the confidence and perseverance that goes deep into the heart and cannot be erased.
Compared with other films of the same type, this film is more about the deep tingling feeling of the blood-stained "forced" transformation and sacrifice faced by marginal figures in LGBT society who are not accepted by the mainstream of society!
Each of us will long for our own path to be a broad road without any gravel. But not everyone is lucky enough to have a boulevard full of flowers. In the face of those marginalized people who are not in the mainstream of society, it may be difficult for us to care for them, but at least we can respect them instead of viewing them from a different perspective or slandering them.
Each of us was once an angel, stumbled into the world to experience something and gain something. Since every experience is meaningful, why don't we love and care for others well?
Thanks for reading!
