At the beginning, I knew that Steve McQueen won the Oscar because of "Twelve Years as a Slave", a black director, and because of a history of black blood and tears that was gathered by a big name. If "Twelve Years as a Slave" focuses on history, politics and humanity, "Widows" wants to explore crime, race, and politics, which are equally ambitious themes. Before the start of the "Widows" movie, Steve McQueen appeared on the big screen, thanking the audience for coming to the theater to watch the movie. In some accidents, the director himself was very shy and cautious.
The movie tells the story of a widow who, after the unexpected death of her husband, the other widows, made a big vote. Steve McQueen is very good at telling stories. Various timelines intersect, two storylines (crime, campaign) intersect, without being rigid. At the beginning of the film, it was explained that Veronica and Harry, the black aunt, still love each other in various ways, all kinds of lingering. On one side, he confessed that the old handsome guy was actually the leader of a gang of thieves and was violently fleeing the crime scene. After some chases, the police blocked the gang of thieves in an abandoned factory and parking lot. After various explosions of electric light and flint, the criminal gang was tragically wiped out.
Then I talked about the four widows each having different styles of funerals. The funeral of the husband of the black aunt Veronica was the most Western. There were various figures with faces and even Jack Mulligan, who was running for the senator, attended the senator in a neat suit. The details, the camera flashed, and the cemetery next to it said Marcus (1989-2008). We guessed it was the son of two people. In this way, my father was buried next to him, thinking of the love between the two people. Now Veronica tremblingly puts a flower. Spending on the coffin is also very embarrassing. On the other side, the dinner after the funeral of the Latina Linda's family was a bit lively. A large group of Latino relatives and an unclear mother-in-law blamed her for her son's death. The funeral of the beautiful blonde girl Alice’s domestic violence boyfriend was in a church. The priest sang a eulogy in a language that didn’t know what language. Alice was crying and wanted to open the coffin for the last look. Ah, it was so messy, I was shocked when I saw it. The last short-haired white widow (without remembering her name) was also at the funeral in the church, but compared to the others, she was much more prosaic. She looked at the coffin indifferently with her little baby in her arms (this is a foreshadowing, audiences).
After the funeral, the first three widows encountered various levels of trouble. The black underworld boss Manning came to Veronica's house. Manning was going to compete with Jack Mulligan this year, but Harry stole his campaign funds of $2 million. I was bombarded by the police, no matter who you want the money. Manning is cruel and cruel, and he has a younger brother who is more cruel and exterminates humanity. Poor widow Veronica hugged the dog and wanted to cry without tears. Linda went to work in her own clothing store. There was a bunch of looters in the store. It turned out that Linda's husband owed foreign debts and secretly used Linda's shop to mortgage the loan. Now the wicked husband is gone, so I don't need to find who you want to find. Alice herself has no skill except for being good-looking. She originally thought her mother could rely on her violent boyfriend when she was gone. She didn’t expect her to go out of the tiger’s den. It was like a wolf’s den. Her mother actually encouraged Alice to do compensated dating, but after a bit of contortion, Alice actually did it. went.
When Veronica was desperate, Harry's former driver gave her a notebook in which he recorded every crime committed by the gangster Harry, and at the end there was Harry's preparation plan for the last crime. Veronica got this just like the pirate got the treasure map, he immediately recruited soldiers and other widows to do this big case together. Among them, the first three widows were all recruited into the army, and the fourth widow, who had no sense of existence, didn't know why he didn't come (this is the second foreshadowing). Then Linda also stated her only contribution to this action and even this movie, which is the line "I want my kids to know, I didn't just sit there and take it." which is the title of this article. .
Why is that the only contribution of Linda, because Veronica has assigned everyone a task, buy a gun, find the place marked on the drawing, or something. Linda didn't finish anything, and was almost given MeToo. She was obviously a Mexican female beater, but turned out to be an embroidered pillow. On the contrary, Alice, who is an embroidered pillow, relied on her beauty and luck, not only to get a car and a gun, but also to understand where the building marked by the drawing was. It turned out to be Jack Mulligan's home.
To say that Harry is also black-bellied, he was first instructed by Jack Mulligan to steal two million of election funds from his competitor, Manning, and then planned to steal five million from Mulligan's family, feeling that he wanted to take advantage of the fisherman's profit.
The three widows have gone through various preparations and temptations, and there are some unexpected episodes in the middle. The biggest episode was when Veronica went to visit the fourth widow's house and found Harry's wine bottle, and the dog kept barking at a closed door. It turned out that Harry was behind the door. It turned out that Harry had already got on with the fourth widow, made a round for his gang, and then ran away by himself. Veronica trembled, trembled, still lacking the courage to open the door and fled.
The plan was still going on, and several people entered Mulligan's house almost effortlessly on election night. I got the money smoothly, and when he came out, he bumped into the old undead Jack Mulligan's father. The old man shot Alice and was killed by Linda's babysitter female driver. Only a few people could escape. I thought it was a success, but the praying mantis caught the cicada and the sparrow was behind. Manning's inhuman brother kept watching them, so he just cut him off. Several people went after them bravely, but they didn't know how to catch up, and they chased the omnipotent brother Manning into a car accident.
Veronica took the money back to Harry's lair, an abandoned warehouse, which was where Veronica and the widows had prepared before. It was clearing up, and Harry appeared as a result. This shameless Harry, not only wanted to take the money, but also wanted to shoot Veronica to death. Veronica was heartbroken, "Why? Why is all this?! Why did you form your white family with that white woman?" Harry also gave a rain of pears, "I can't save us, I can only save myself. Why are you? If you don’t sell your laptop to Manning, why do you do it yourself."
Interrupted, Harry also said that I could not save our son. He was very bluntly interrupted. It turned out that the son of two people, a black boy, was shot and killed by a white policeman because of misunderstanding while driving a few years ago. Are you familiar with the plot? Steve McQueen also deliberately arranged this plot in order to express his personal anger.
Just when Harry hesitated and turned around to shoot his wife, the gun went off, and our black aunt who had gone through the transformation shot and killed her husband. It was so pleasing.
In the end, several widows have lived a prosperous and happy life.
The script was written by Steve McQueen and the popular suspense novel queen Gillian Flynn, mature and impeccably mature. In terms of film aesthetics, Steve McQueen and Hans Zimmer have joined forces, and the picture and music aesthetics are almost perfect. Hans's soundtrack is accompanied by the rhythm of the movie, sometimes soothing and sometimes tense, completely controlling the mood of the audience. It's a pity that such a neat work, and such a theme that fits my preferences, is not perfect to the level of five stars. The biggest and most fatal shortcoming of the film is that the theme of the rise of women is that there is very little discussion about the women themselves, and the heroines are not clear enough. We know nothing about them except for their previous occupations. We don't know what personality they had before, what they liked, and what they pursued. We only know that Veronica belongs to the Teachers’ Association, but she is more like an old canary raised by her husband in a gold wire cage. She lives in a luxurious apartment and has a private driver. She actually treats her husband’s real career. Little is known. Linda basically uses her own money to support her, but she is actually happy. There is also Alice, who is basically a useless person who depends on her boyfriend of domestic violence. Knowing that the director wants to show the theme of the whole film through this, "The best thing we have going for us is being who we are, because no one thinks we have the balls to pull this off." It shows how weak the widows were before, The later robbery was as reversal and exciting, but unfortunately, when the character's personality is thin, it is difficult to resonate with the audience.
Liam Neeson's acting is impeccable. Whether it is the lingering on the bed, the contradiction when his identity is almost revealed, and the selfishness and weakness of the final blackening, his performance is quite satisfactory. Punisher's short appearance was a surprise. I hope this actor can get more scripts. I feel like an actor with great potential. I like it very much.
