The city that loves cats, the city that loves oneself

It's actually a 2016 film, and it was released on the mainland in 2018.

A documentary, of course, can not expect the so-called plot.

Seeing the cats in Istanbul naturally reminds me of the ancient Byzantium and Constantinople. Such a magnificent city is actually a paradise for cats.

Where does the cat here come from? One is the pets kept by sailors on the pier in the old days. Second, in order to prevent rodent infestation in the sewers, the residents spontaneously started raising cats.

Why do people like cats? I tried to speculate rationally, but to no avail.

I think cats can be used as an emotional sustenance, a trustworthy trust. Second, people may also experience the value experience of self-actualization in Maslow's theory of needs from the behavior of caring for cats. Thirdly, since it is almost impossible to communicate between people, it may have the same effect as emotional projection between such a creature, and a thorough understanding is neither possible nor expected.

Of course, for the Turks, perhaps Allah's call also played a huge role in such cat-loving behavior.

For those who believe in modern science, religion may lack realistic basis, but human emotional needs or spiritual world can be well filled by religion.

Love cats, love yourself.

Kedi quotes

  • Unnamed Human Resident of Istanbul: I accept death as a reality but I have difficultydealing with the longing. That's my problem with death.

  • Bülent Üstün: Any ungrateful behavior on their part is really an act of sincerity. They don't need to apologize. I guess there are people who expect that from a cat. "I gave you all that food and you won't even sit on my lap". A relationship where they expect a return on an investment.
