The whole film is very beautiful, expressing the director or screenwriter's views on love through the love attitude and performance of the four good friends (mainly the heroine and gay honey). I rewatched it twice and listened to it once. It's a great full-point comedy romance movie that deserves to be seen at least twice.
The author's contempt and dissatisfaction with "movie and fashion" are revealed from time to time in the film, which is full of falsehood, inferiority, artificiality and superficiality. This can be seen in the self-deprecating heroine Jacks, Paolo's realistic photography and Gay honey Peter's script writing.
--Jacks would say, look, I work at Vogue, of course I'm a lunatic; or don't overestimate me, see where I work.
--Paolo believes that his Bole is only good at "making moments", not good at "capturing"; there is only hypocrisy, not truth.
--Peter's script didn't want a big Hollywood romantic moment at all, it just wanted to tell people the truth, the complicated, unbearable, unbelievable truth that Jacks said; but it ended up being arranged for a big hug at the airport , confessions of love and hugs and kisses, mixed with lies.
There are also descriptions of "Notting Hill", "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "Comet Beauty" interspersed in the film, and the author can be heard snickering over his mouth.
-- "Notting Hill" The poor boy is recognized for its true value, and finds true love, and happiness is forever. What can you expect from this typical Hollywood comedy love story?
-- "Breakfast at Tiffany's" in the original book, the hero is a giver, so the heroine can wear a beautiful hat and go shopping with the hero; otherwise, how could this happen?
-- "The Comet Beauty" is untenable, it's impossible for this boss to be threatened like this.
Four good friends (Finlay/Jacks/Peter/Talullah)
-- the best in love can be the unluckiest, in fact it's the least played Finlay. Ten years later, on the birthday of his lover who died of AIDS, the carcass of a dead pig was still displayed, and he still burst into tears.
--Talullah can't wait to admit that she's "falling in love". First, the arrogant black Freedom inexplicably made her an affair lover; later, Tony, a phone harasser who has never met; The specific reason why James, who is a family friend, is together has not been explained. The poor man was terribly unloving, terribly sensitive, terribly vulnerable; always scruffy, just waking up, accompanied by alcohol and marijuana.
--Peter longs for true love, believes that true love should be a thunderbolt, and doesn't know that day, under Cupid's care, hits and falls in love. So why did the soundtrack sound like thunder when I met Wrong David. Love is always happening, anywhere in his own head, but not in reality. He is a visionary, a young dreamer. Just when he was about to meet the man he was thinking of falling in love with at first sight, he was already imagining that a year later, when the two discussed the script and finally wrote the script, the public's reaction would be praise or slander. Two of the best lines in this movie are from Peter & Jacks, "True love is a capitalist conspiracy" and "Love is a choice". (See later)
--Jacks' favorite movie is "Breakfast at Tiffany's", she believes in true love, which is known from the gentle and defenseless face she sees Hepburn; but she is afraid of being hurt, Therefore, I will only open my heart to gay lovers who have absolutely no room for development, and surrender their sincerity. She's a cutie, I think Cancer, who cares about any good friend who can stop and listen to Talullah's unreasonable rants about her neurolove, even in the midst of a dreadful photo shoot or about to have sex with James Long-winded.
The theme of the movie is clearly expressed in the lines. The author said that movies are all shit. True love is not something that lightning strikes will not suddenly come to you, but that you need to put down your defenses, stop fantasizing, stop being afraid and stop thinking that you are living in a movie. , let go and find the truth that you have the courage to seek and make choices.
---------------Some of the classic lines in "Love and other disasters", handwritten dictation ---------------
1-Pillow Talk of One Night Stand
James: Hey, sleepy head! U up?
Jacks: What time is it?
James: Almost noon
Jacks: I am afraid u've got to go.
James: Excuse me?
Jacks: U've got to go, I have friends coming over for brunch.
James: What? In my apartment?
Jacks:.........Sorry.
James: Three years and you still treat me like a one-night stand!
2—Love is thunder or lightning The flu?
Peter: what are u doing?
Jacks: Reading this delicious recipe for Beetroot Salad with marjoram and balsamic vinegar dressing!
Peter: No, what are u doing with James?
Jacks: Nothing
Peter: U broke up with him a month ago
Jacks : I know, it's just sex. He fills a void, literally
Peter: I don't see how you expect to meet someone new if you spend all your time with your ex.
Jacks: Good point. maybe I should get back together, so I spend less time with him.
Peter: I don't think it's funny
Jacks: Neither do I
Peter: What's the point if shagging someone ad nauseam if u know you're never going to love them.
Jacks: It's not so simple
Peter: He's in love with u, jacks. u are not in love with him. It doesn't get more simple than that.
Jacks: That's not fair! I happen to care about James, a lot. And I hate the fact that he feels more than me, and I hate the fact that I am not in love with him, because I know I should be, because he's smart and sweet and decent, and I don't want to hurt him. So I keep hoping that if I'll grow into it, that maybe one day I'll wake up and I'll feel...
Peter: What ?
Jacks: In love! You know, dizzy and feverish and nauseous
Peter: That's not love, Jacks. That's the flu.
Jacks: Well, at least I am trying. You big cynic!
3—True love is a capitalist conspiracy
Peter: Jacks , have you ever thought this whole 'true love' thing might be a conspiracy?
Jacks: A conspiracy?
Peter: Yeah. A capitalist conspiracy. a lie concocted by the Film, Publishing and Music industries. All pushing this thing, this concept that doesn't even exist!
Jacks: True love doesn't exist?
Peter: Well, think about it . Where is it besides songs, books and films? I mean who can honestly say I will always love you?
Jacks: Whiney Huston
Peter: Yeah, when she's high on crack. The point is, everyone's miserable because they are looking for this nonexistent thing, or else miserable because they think they're settled for less.
Jacks: I am not miserable, and I believe in true love.
Peter: Yeah, that's because u still sleep with your ex-boyfriend.
4—Love is like farting
Therapist : I think I can help you.
Peter: U do?
Therapist: I do. I think you are stuck in that pre-relationship moment of infatuation and you need to be reminded that a real-relationship has many, many, many more stages.
Peter: Stages? I like that.
Therapist: Relationships are best measured by farting.
Peter: Excuse me?
Therapist: the stages over relationship can be defined by farting.
Stage one is the conspiracy of silence. This is a fantasy period where both parties pretend that they have no bodily waste. This illusion is very quickly shattered by that first shy 'ooh did you fart?' follow by the sheepish admission of truth, this heralds a period of deeper intimacy. A period I like to call the 'fart honeymoon' where both parties find each other's gas just the cutest thing in the world. But of course no honeymoon can last forever. And so we reach the critical fork in the fart. Either the fart loses its power to amuse and embarrass, thereby signifying true love or else, it begins to annoy and disgust thereby symbolizing all that is blocked and rancid in the formerly beloved.
5—I am not a sad woman
Jacks: It's just I don't want to be one of those awful characters out of a movie that gushes out their past while the violins play. I mean I had a bad age five, I had a terrible age five actually, but all in all, since then my life's been pretty blessed.
6—Love is the choice
Jacks: I worry about you more. I just don't want you end up alone.
Peter: Well. Neither do I. And stop being so dramatic!
Jacks: So stop living your life like you're in some kind of movie.
Peter: Excuse me?
Jacks: Stop trying to cast your true love instead of just meeting him.
Peter: When I meet him, I will know.
Jacks: I' m not so sure. Love isn't always a lightning bolt, you know? Maybe sometime it's just a choice.
Peter: Oh, that's easy for you to say, you are flying to Argentina to meet the love of your life!
Jacks: That's not it. I don't know Paolo is the love of my life, but I decide to give it a chance to let it to be. Maybe true love is a decision, u know a decision to take a chance with somebody. To give to somebody without worrying whether they'll give anything back or if they're gonna hurt you or if they really are the one. Maybe love isn't something that happens to you. Maybe it's something you have to choose.
7—The Movie Is A Lie
Peter: They made me write that ending. Apparently audiences demanded that Jacks and Paolo have this big Hollywood big moment .
Jacks: I love that ending.
Peter: how can u love that ending? It's artificial.
Jacks: it's a lot better than what really happened.
..........
Peter: I just want to tell the truth and somewhere along the line, it got mixed up with a bunch of lies.
Jacks: Nobody goes to the movies for the truth except for the French. The truth is way too complicated, and unsatisfying and hard to believe.
