The nature of the comedy may have reduced its depth, but not its charm. There are great tragicomedies in ancient times. Not just tragedy. Of course, there is no way to be great, it's good-looking, and it's appropriate to eat ice cream for the eyes. Key words, London, white-collar upper class, gay, fashion, drama within drama. Fresh, humorous, ironic.

Vogue chick Jacks (Brittany Murphy) and freelance writer Peter (Matthew rhys) are college classmates and rent a London flat. The main plot is propped up by a misunderstanding in each of the two's emotional lives (think of Jane Austen's grandmother, misunderstanding is the number one knife of romance screenwriters and writers). Peter's long-time crush, Tom, turns out to be a bag of grass with an embroidered pillow. And Paulo, the handsome South American guy that Jacks forced to Peter, is not gay at all, and he has been in love with Jacks for a long time. Peter's novel based on his own life was finally put on the screen, but the adaptation by the big director was beyond recognition, almost rape, and the Homo story line was even completely cancelled. Of course, the fact that this reality was made into the movie with the play-in-play method is also a kind of comfort to Peter and me.

The soundtrack of the film is good, and the style of the film is very close, light and ironic. The actor did a good job. The aristocratic ugly poetess Telullah is especially good. Matthew rhys is my favorite actor in years. I don't know much about the style of London gays. If the clothing style of Peter and the comrades in the film is a representation, I like it very much, all kinds of green, azurite, gray and blue. Clean and casual, low-key and comfortable, the upper body and waist lines are unambiguous. .

The director should be someone who knows or cares about gays, otherwise he won't read the novel "Tiffany's Breakfast" and notice that the protagonist in it is gay. On closer inspection, Canal+ participated, and Luc Besson and his sons and daughters participated in the filming and production.

This is a film that a friend downloaded and put on my computer at random, and I just watched it a few times, an undecided casualist.

Love and Other Disasters quotes

  • Emily 'Jacks' Jackson: So stop living your life like you're in some kind of a movie.

    Peter Simon: Excuse me?

Emily 'Jacks' Jackson: Stop trying to cast your true love instead of just meeting him.

Peter Simon: When I meet him, I'll know.

Emily 'Jacks' Jackson: I'm not so sure. Love isn't always a lightning bolt, you know? Maybe sometimes it's just a choice.

Peter Simon: Well, that's easy for you to say! You're flying to Argentina to meet the love of your life!

Emily 'Jacks' Jackson: That's just it. I don't know that Paolo's the love of my life, but I've decided to give him the chance to be. Maybe true love is a decision. You know, a decision to take a chance with somebody, to give to somebody without worrying whether they'll give anything back, or if they're gonna hurt you, or if they really are the one. Maybe love isn't something that happens to you. Maybe it's something you have to choose.

Peter Simon: So what do I do?

Emily 'Jacks' Jackson: Well, you could start by putting all of those fantasies of true love where they belong, into your work of fiction.

  • Emily 'Jacks' Jackson: ...We can't have you all alone in London on a Friday night.

Paolo Sarmiento: You make me sound like an exchange student.
