afterthought and memo

The entire painting style of this film is very depressing, and most of the characters are described in black and white and color style. But the whole film is more black and white. I don't think it's a novel technique either, since there's no black and white use that goes beyond the movie "Hintler's List." But there are still some beautiful elements in this story, after all, a literary film. I don't know why I always remember that "Long Dreams of the Covered Bridge" has the same viewing feeling as this film. The story is very simple. When World War I broke out, the male protagonist from France had to kill a German soldier named Franz in order to protect himself. After the war, the guilty hero travels to Germany to seek forgiveness from Franz's family. He didn't tell the truth at first, but after spending some time with Franz's fiancee Anna, he told the truth. And Anna did not pass the news to Franz's parents. Therefore, he wanted to commit suicide by throwing himself into the river, but was rescued by passers-by. The male protagonist wrote a letter after returning to France, but when Anna replied, the letter was withdrawn. Anna, who was already somewhat in love, was supported by Franz's parents who didn't know the truth, and went to Paris to find a male protagonist. On the way, I thought the male protagonist couldn't think of suicide and cried bitterly. Later, he finally found the actual residence of the male protagonist, and panicked that Franz's parents and her forgive the fact that the male protagonist killed Franz. Sadly, knowing that the male protagonist already has a fiancée makes Anna fall into dark sadness again~ The guilty male protagonist can only hug her and give her a regrettable kiss goodbye at the train station~ The sad Anna did not return to Germany, just Continue to write letters to Franz's parents with white lies, lest the two elders be hit again. I stayed in a gallery in Germany by myself. At the end of the film, Anna and a young guy who seemed to be a good match watched Manet's oil painting "Suicide", hoping that Anna could live better~
