Plot summary:

The play has a total of 10 episodes, each ranging from 30-70 minutes. All the stories take place in this tavern called Horace And Pete. This tavern has been passed down for more than 100 years, and various stories are staged here. You may think that the way of telling a story is bland or even boring, but that is the essence of life! Those stories are also worth pondering, if you are willing to stop and listen. You will find that the tavern is the big society, and you can understand the whole picture of the current society from the aspect of the tavern.

Episode 1: Various characters appear; Episode 2: The plot advances (Sylvia finds out about breast cancer); Episode 3: Everyday stories (ex-wife talks about her cheating); Episode 4: Everyday stories (abortion views, a friend's story) narration); episode 5: the second advance of the plot (the death of old Pete sparked another controversy about the pub); episode 6: the third advance of the plot (the beautiful marriage was broken up); episode 7: the daily story (a stranger's remarks) , Horace's One Night Stand); Episode 8: The Fuse (an emergency forces Pete to flee); Season 9: Emergency (Pete's condition spirals out of control and disappears completely); Episode 10: Tragedy (Pete kills Horace) . (Actually, I was very tangled when writing this paragraph, because the story was too complicated and the information conveyed was too dense.

In a few sentences, the play tells a story: there is such a family tavern, run by two brothers surnamed Horace and Pete. In addition to some stories that happen every day in the tavern, it mainly tells about Horace and Pete. The story that happened, two brothers who lived in a violent and indifferent environment since childhood, brought different problems when they grew up. Problems with the family of origin lead to tragedy, that's all.

My thoughts:

one,

When I write this, I don't care about some logical or objective issues, I just want to express my anger. I want to scold Sylvia, call her indifferent, call her self-centered, call her cold-blooded. .....How can you treat your close relatives like this, do those unforgivable things, and don't take it for granted, even a little plausible, without a guilty conscience, in short, beyond the scope of your own cognition. This kind of person is so wonderful, ridiculous, hateful and pathetic!

Specifically, she wanted to get rid of the environment that brought her psychological shadow, that is, the tavern, where she had experienced her father's verbal violence and indifference, she hated that place, and she hated the way her parents did, especially It was those dirty, unsavory words, which in turn were being applied to those around her who cared about her.

He spoke ill of his own daughter, and showed no warmth or even indifference to Pete. How could he be so calm in the face of Pete's "death", did he not take him seriously at all? ! Do whatever you want when you don't hold your identity as a "victim", and even plausibly say: "Even if you say bad things to them, you won't feel guilty or anything, because that's how they treat themselves." So what are those innocent people? I don't object to your "tit for tat", but be careful to overdo it and turn yourself into the person you hated in the first place! So I just want to say to your experience: deserve it!

two,

I express my sympathy for what happened to Horace. Although he also has something hateful about Sylvia in him, I see his hard work and dedication, and see his temperature. He uses actions to try to make up for his faults and repair the relationship with his daughter, yes Pete's nostalgia and so on, in him I see human attributes.

The hateful part is, out of concern for the other party, there will always be a sentence: "Are you ok?", only a short sentence without actual action, try to avoid causing trouble to yourself as much as possible, when the other party is unwilling to say "OK" ,I am fine", they will blame the other party for not understanding themselves; and when Pete hasn't returned home for a long time, he doesn't know how to look for it, and he will think seriously when someone asks him; he doesn't know how to deal with intimacy , I don't know how to praise, praise others, hurt others with harsh words, etc.

The reason why he is so "tolerant" to him is that on the one hand, he sees the warmth of being a human being in him, and on the other hand, he feels excusable. All questions can be found in his childhood experience. Living in such an environment where male power is rampant, verbal violence, and indifference, although he hates those things, these things are also subtly rooted in his mind and manifested unconsciously through his words and deeds. In addition, he also acquires learned Helpless, he feels powerless and powerless in the face of problems, and he has no corresponding countermeasures in his experience.

three,

I feel sad and sympathetic about what happened to Pete. How to say, in the words of the movie, "He is a child who has not grown up, and he always expects the attention, encouragement and praise of others", but what he gets is the snub and ridicule of his relatives, "They don't treat Pete as a human being. Treat, even if there is such a trace of concern, it will not become what it is now (crazy)." The relatives who should give love the most are the most indifferent people in the world. Is there anything more desperate than this?

An experience of abandonment, neglected from time to time, and finally breaking Pete's heart defense, he gave his heart to the devil. He wants revenge, wants to end it all, but the result is not acceptable to us, but so what? If you don't get it, let it be destroyed! To a certain extent, it is also a kind of "beauty"! Pete, who finally lost his mind, reached for his last "savior", Horace, who had been expecting him.

Tragedy never happens for no reason. If you can't find it, go back and look at the childhood experience of the person involved. If you think about it carefully, you will find that the traces of childhood will accompany you throughout your life, and even become a part of you, whether it is good or bad. .

If one day you realize this clearly and hurt some people, please don’t blame yourself too much, it’s not your fault, it’s not all your fault to be precise, you are also a victim, please forgive yourself, It is difficult to accept those who have been shaped by experience. You still have to have hope. Believe me, it will always get better. Life is so long, and it is definitely possible to get better! ! ! Don't choose to commit suicide. After death, in my opinion, there is endless nothingness, a feeling more terrible than choosing suicide.

Four,

There are also some bits and pieces, which are not described here, but are listed as follows:

1. It is a disaster when two people who have a desire to talk to each other get together.

2. If you want to be a bitch but also want to set up an archway, how can you live so tired? It is better to be a bitch, not humble or arrogant.

3. Everyone has an answer in their hearts. To talk to others is nothing more than to clarify their thoughts and strengthen their own ideas.

4. Does a mentally ill person have to find a mentally ill person as a partner? Do we have to spend the rest of our lives with people who have the same label as us?

5. People are very good at justifying themselves, which is both disgusting and fortunate.

6. Innately determines the range of achievements you can obtain, and the day after tomorrow determines what you can obtain.

  • Tom: Just accept the fact that love is rare and it probably won't happen to you, ever.

  • Tom: You can't. That's why they call it falling in love. You can't fall on purpose.
