After reading it, I remembered my grandfather who was in the volunteer army, my grandfather's brother. The eldest grandfather was arrested and enlisted in the army at the age of 17. During the Korean War, he was "sent" by China to North Korea to fight. After the war, I ran back to China to find my family, because I didn't have a military status and was not recognized by the state (I still remember the expression when my grandfather said that he would not be recognized as a military member by the state when I was a child). He has cultivated land in a mountain village all his life, and the next three generations are all farmers. Later, his descendants all went to Korea to work. Then, a dramatic thing happened. A few years ago, my grandfather immigrated to South Korea with his family. He was investigated for cancer in South Korea, and the Korean medical insurance reimbursed all the treatment. It's ironic. He fought for China all his life, but he was not recognized as a military member. He got cancer in his later years but was treated for free in the country where the enemy fought.

Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War quotes

  • Jin-seok: I wish this was all just a dream. I want to wake up in my bed, and over breakfast, I'd tell you that I had a strange dream. Then I would go to school, and you and mom would go to work.

  • Young-shin: [while trying to decide what to take along as they evacuate the house upon declaration of war] There's Kimchi pots buried in the yard. What will happen to them?
