"Brother, the war is over, I will start school tomorrow" "That's
great! I can go to school tomorrow!"
"What about you, brother?"
"I'm going to school too..."
— - The Tai Chi flag is flying

. It has to be said that compared with American Hollywood, Korean movies do not have such magnificent and shocking scene descriptions, nor do they have such advanced and technologically advanced special effects synthesis. The delicate description once again conquered all audiences!
Came across this movie by chance, but I still think it's one of the best Korean movies ever made! What is war? What does war really mean? Zhenxi and Zhentai in the film are two brothers. The biggest wish of the elder brother Zhenxi is that his younger brother can be admitted to university. The elder brother has his fiancee, Yingshu, and the mother is a mute. The children in the village love these two elder brothers , But the war came, and it came without warning! The brothers were forced into the army, with no training, no pay, or even food. In order to make the younger brother go home early, the elder brother worked desperately to obtain a military medal. He began to kill people and became a war machine, but the younger brother did not understand this, and began to hate and fear such an elder brother. Later, Yingshu sacrificed for food. Working for the North Korean camp, she was shot by the South Korean government for espionage. The younger brother did everything to rescue her, but the older brother, mistakenly thought that his younger brother was dead, "started to surrender" and frantically took revenge on the enemies who killed his family. In order to cover his younger brother's escape, he turned his gun on his former comrades in arms. . . . . War, dog day war!
Our generation has been born to catch up with the era of rapid development of China's national strength. We do not worry about food or clothes. Some people even become tired of ordinary and yearn for war. But what is war? In the Korean War, the Chinese army invested a total of 1.35 million troops, with 30,000 non-combat casualties! What concept? That is to say, when the war broke out and we actually went to the battlefield, we might have been frozen to death by the cold snap of the Gema Plateau before we even got a chance to grab it! Resources, Human Resources! On the battlefield, you are the resource! You don't even need a box of cans that cost less than two dollars!
There is a scene in the film that particularly shocked me. When the South Korean troops with relatively good weapons, even wearing cotton-padded jackets, faced the volunteer troops wearing straw sandals and single clothes, they were retreating and scared! But the price is that the volunteers are taking their lives to rush forward! Only once in a lifetime, for the land behind them, behind them are countless crying families in China, and the dead South Korean troops, they also have their own homes, but who will bear all this? Whether it is victory or defeat, there will never be a real winner in the face of war!
War is not about tearing devils by hand, nor is it that a machine gun can defeat a Japanese regiment. We can also shoot excellent war art films such as "My Commander, My Regiment" and "Assembly", but most of the films , sorry, I don't even have the idea to look at it! These films, the scene is great, the action design is very cool, but it lacks the depiction of the soldiers at the bottom and the basic respect for history! If the war movies do not have the charge of the bottom, or if the war does not have the charge of the soldiers from the bottom, instead it is just the words of the generals and the heroic chivalry of the folk heroes who fight ten or a hundred, is it still war?

Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War quotes

  • Jin-seok: I wish this was all just a dream. I want to wake up in my bed, and over breakfast, I'd tell you that I had a strange dream. Then I would go to school, and you and mom would go to work.

  • Young-shin: [while trying to decide what to take along as they evacuate the house upon declaration of war] There's Kimchi pots buried in the yard. What will happen to them?
