What are the differences between "Green Book" and real events?

The real Don Shirley is not someone who is far away from the black community and does not understand black music. He is actively involved in the black civil rights movement. He is a friend of Dr. King and participated in the parade in Selma together. He is very close friends with black musicians Nina Simone, Duke Ellington and Sarah Vaughn.

The real Don Shirley is not alienated from his family. It is said in the movie that he has only one brother who is not in contact. In fact, he had three close brothers at the time. After the death of one of the brothers' wife, he almost raised two nephews who had no mothers.

According to Don Shirley's family, Don Shirley and Tony did not establish a real friendship, and their relationship is the relationship between an ordinary employer and an employee. Tony did not work for Don Shirley for long and was fired. The fact is that Tony's son Nick Vallelonga is one of the writers of the film. The film only chooses one person's narrative without referring to (or respecting) the other's narrative. However, this is only a film, not a documentary, and it may not be very important to not restore the facts.

Don Shirley's family was interviewed after the movie was broadcast and expressed considerable dissatisfaction with the movie. However, in the follow-up, director Green Book responded to Don Shirley's family accusations. What is the truth? Because the death of the two people in the world may not be confirmed at all. Right or wrong can only be decided by each. https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2019/01/green-book-director-peter-farrelly-defends-movie-against-criticism

The smooth film, the exquisite routines, and the popular plots that can be imagined along the way, there is basically no big ups and downs, mainly watching the actors, knowing that it is an American routine that has been tried and tested, you will be slightly moved. Maybe this is one of the great places in Hollywood. one.

It is definitely the most interesting movie I have ever watched in this year's tiff. The laughter and applause never stopped. The rhythm is lively, the plot is interesting without losing depth. Uncle V’s Italian driver from the streets of Bronx and Ali’s educated black musician collided with surprising sparks. The two traveled all the way from New York to the south. However, racial discrimination became more and more serious as they went south. . The director used a clever angle to show the audience the injustice and the inner entanglements of the musicians. Although he has performed on different important occasions since he was a child, the most enjoyable time was in a small black bar on Christmas Eve. He finally chose to speak for himself and no longer succumbed to discrimination. The ending is warm and touching, it is really a good movie.

Green Book quotes

  • Tony Lip: You know, when you first hired me, my wife went out and bought one of your records. The one about the orphans?

    Dr. Don Shirley: Orphans?

Tony Lip: Yeah. Cover had a bunch of kids sittin' around a campfire?

    Dr. Don Shirley: Orpheus.

    Tony Lip: ...Yeah.

Dr. Don Shirley: Orpheus in the Underworld. It's based on a French opera. And those weren't children on the cover, those were demons in the bowels of Hell.

Tony Lip: No shit! They must've been naughty kids!

  • Dr. Don Shirley: So where did this "Tony the Lip" moniker come from?

Tony Lip: [laughs] It's not "Tony the Lip", it's "Tony Lip". One word. I got it when I was a kid 'cause my friends said I was the best bullshit artist in the Bronx.

    [Chuckles]

Dr. Don Shirley: [Horrified] Why are you smiling?

Tony Lip: What do you mean?

Dr. Don Shirley: It doesn't bother you that your friends - the people closest to you - consider you a liar?

Tony Lip: Who said liar? I said bullshit artist!

Dr. Don Shirley: And what's the difference?

Tony Lip: 'Cause I don't lie! Ever! I'm just good at talkin' people into... y'know, doin' things they don't wanna do... By bullshittin' 'em.

    [Grins]

Dr. Don Shirley: And you're proud of that?

Tony Lip: Well, it got me this job.
