Perceive Heaven with Your Heart - A Brief Review of "The Colors of Heaven"

Among the filmmakers who shoot children's themes, Majid Majidi of Iran is definitely one that must be mentioned. Compared with the complete realism of the previous work "Little Shoes", Majid's film techniques in "The Color of Heaven" are slightly deliberate, but overall this film is still a masterpiece.

Muhammad was born into a poor family and has been dependent on his father, two younger sisters and grandmother since childhood. God did not give him eyes that could see light, but a heart of gold. He is strong, kind, and loves life, and like other children, he yearns for all things good.

The school for the blind was on holiday, and Mohammed was taken back to his hometown by his father in a small mountain village. Touching his sister's face, he told her in surprise that "you have grown up"; while touching grandma's rough and wrinkled hands, he told grandma "this is the whitest and most beautiful hand I have ever seen".

In our imagination, the world of the blind is black, but in Muhammad's eyes, the world is colorful.
When Muhammad took the hands of his two sisters and ran laughing on the uphill where the flowers were blooming, we would sincerely believe that this was heaven, and they were pure little angels.

As I write this, I often need to control my tears from falling. In the pristine images, innocent children can always inadvertently touch the softest part of the viewer's heart, which can evoke our deepest emotions: love, pity and sadness.

May Allah bless all the children, and may life in heaven not be an illusion for children!

The Color of Paradise quotes

  • Mohammad: [crying] Our teacher says that God loves the blind more because they can't see. But I told him if it was so, He would not make us blind so that we can't see Him. He answered "God is not visible. He is everywhere. You can feel Him. You see Him through your fingertips." / Now I reach out everywhere for God till the day my hands touch Him and tell Him everything, even all the secrets in my heart.

  • Mohammad: [crying] Nobody loves me because I'm blind.
