Comparison is a double-edged sword

Our important decisions will inevitably affect our lives subtly and shape the direction of our lives. But many times, we do not follow our own hearts, but make decisions based on the judgments of others. Therefore, we have been active in the values of others, and naturally, we will often compare our own situation with others. However, comparison is a double-edged sword. Once you are in a better situation, you will easily settle for the status quo and stagnate; if you are worse than others, you will feel anxious, confused, and even resentful. In this way, we completely lose ourselves, but ignore our vision, our growth, our friends and relatives, the me who was me, and so on. This is probably one of the "butterfly effects" that lead to midlife crisis. Regrettably, human life cannot stand the test of time in the dimension of time, and it may cost a lot to realize it later. Fortunately, we are still young, we are still alive, and we still have the agency to think and act. I am glad that I can understand this issue during this time, and I am also grateful for the inspiration that the movie "Hello Brad" brought me, which made me think more deeply about my life in 10 to 15 years.

Brad's Status quotes

  • Brad Sloan: [narrating] Her friend, Maya was equally captivating, equally compelling. I suddenly felt a deep grief... for all the women I would never love and all the lives I would never live. I imaging running away with them both and starting again and what that might look like.

  • Troy Sloan: When we were walking around today and you embarrassing me, I kept thinking, like, you know, if I go to this school, everybody here's gonna remember this and I'm never gonna live this down. But... you know, they're not gonna remember. Because, everybody's just thinking about themselves. You know? Nobody cares. Like, the only person that's thinking about you, is me, so... the only person's opinion that you should really care about is mine.

Brad Sloan: Yeah. What's your opinion?

Troy Sloan: Well, I love you.

    Brad Sloan: Thank you.
