Brad is middle-aged, with gray hair and financial constraints, and his former college classmates are better than him.

The son is going to choose a university on the east coast, and the wife is busy with work, and Brad is accompanied by him.

The father and son set off at the airport, and Brad, on a whim, wanted to use the points for a first-class cabin—the son had never been in first-class before. But because it was an online booking, he couldn't upgrade with points.

The two came to Brad's former university. Brad remembered a few buddies who had been on TV all day, some were on private jets, and some had retired and spent a lot of time. He went to visit the teacher who had especially admired him, but the teacher had passed away.

The son told Brad that he wanted to go to Harvard and that he had an interview. Brad was overjoyed.

When he arrived at Harvard, his son found that he had misremembered the interview date. Brad tried to fight for it, but it didn't help, and it made everyone embarrassed.

In the bookstore, Brad decided to call his college buddies who were on TV all day. Unexpectedly, my buddy said that he knew someone who was recruiting at Harvard and could make a phone call.

Through his son, Brad met a young girl who had been admitted to Harvard and was full of hope for the future. She wanted to hear some social experience from Brad, but what Brad said was clearly not what the girl wanted to hear, and she was getting more and more disappointed.

My buddy called Harvard admissions, and my son got another chance to interview. The interview went well, but the son didn't seem very satisfied with the professor.

The son goes to the girl's concert, and Brad goes to meet his buddy who helps him with errands. The two dined together in an embarrassing situation, and Brad almost humiliated himself. In the end he left angrily. Brad rushed to his son's place to listen to the girl's concert, and he burst into tears.

At the hotel, Brad talks to his son. The son said that no one cares about how Dad is doing, except him. Brad also seemed relieved - at least he was still alive, and his son and wife were all fine.

Brad's Status quotes

  • Brad Sloan: [narrating] Her friend, Maya was equally captivating, equally compelling. I suddenly felt a deep grief... for all the women I would never love and all the lives I would never live. I imaging running away with them both and starting again and what that might look like.

  • Troy Sloan: When we were walking around today and you embarrassing me, I kept thinking, like, you know, if I go to this school, everybody here's gonna remember this and I'm never gonna live this down. But... you know, they're not gonna remember. Because, everybody's just thinking about themselves. You know? Nobody cares. Like, the only person that's thinking about you, is me, so... the only person's opinion that you should really care about is mine.

Brad Sloan: Yeah. What's your opinion?

Troy Sloan: Well, I love you.

    Brad Sloan: Thank you.
