Directed by John Maybury, written by Sharman Macdonald.
I haven't heard many reviews before watching it. Not a single compliment. I was thinking before booking tickets online, whether to book this movie or the comedy "Made of Honor". Finally, on Rotten As soon as the Tomatoes website was clicked. Based on 91% to 12%, I decided to book tickets for this film.
The film was nearly two hours long, and I was satisfied. There was no boring scene, although there was no climax. Foot scene. Keira Knightley(Vera Phillips) is more and more like a star. The first scene is that she is charming and sings in the military camp. It is a very grabbing scene, which is very impressive. She has been fascinated by her beauty many times in the movie , is a few scenes with light makeup.
I have always had a bad impression of Sienna Miller (Caitlin), especially because she was engaged to the handsome Jude Law and she was not good-looking! But this is the first time I noticed her acting skills, but I have to admit, She does a good
job. Matthew Rhys who plays the poet Dylan Thomas is very convincing for Dylan's down-and-out character. Has acting eyes (doesn't mean he's handsome... )
Cillian Murphy, who played Vera's love interest William, I found out that I actually saw him perform many times, and he played the best villain, with a special face, a little handsome and a little mysterious, especially his eyes. I remember him in "The Dark Knight" (2008 ) and Scarecrow in "Batman Begins" (2005)? I've also seen him in "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" (2006), "Girl with a Pearl Earring" (2003) and "Cold Mountain" (2003). I have to admit that I like him more and more. Although there are not as many roles in this film as the other three characters, they all perform well.
The background of World War II, the story revolves around the Welsh poet (who really is) Dylan Thomas and the two in his life. A woman and another man. It can be said to be an epic love story. There are friendship, love, four-cornered love, war and so on. There are not many parts, the excellent acting skills of the actors and the smooth storyline, even if it is not very touching, it is complete The
photography is also good. I really like the low shot of the round staircase in the military camp, whether it is the empty mirror or Vera's footsteps, or she is sitting alone in the staircase reading a letter, it's all delicious.
The story of the four of them , as viewers, will feel that Vera has a responsibility to keep the relationship from being so chaotic. When her husband is in the war, you should keep a little distance from your friend Dylan and his wife Caitlin. The poet is indeed too down-to-earth and failed.
Postscript: I watched it with two female friends. One said "If you have enough food and no XX, you will be disturbed by war..." She gave the movie 35 points. The other I feel that the plot is weak, and it only revolves around the chaotic relationship and life of three or four people.
I will give the movie 75 points.
