I originally planned to watch everyone's discussion, but found that many felt that the plot was suspended, so I wanted to make a post to explain why many people did not resonate with the plot itself.
1. Lack of a sense of division
The expression of the relationship between the North and the South, I think, is the key to the high ratings of this drama.
Because I am a Fujianese myself, our feelings and attitudes towards Wanwan are very similar to the north-south relationship there. In particular, Wanwan was first cultivated by the people of Quanzhou and Zhangzhou, so there is no difference in terms of local accent (Hokkien and Taiwanese are almost the same) or values (clan concept, worship culture). However, Wanwan is a bit like North Korea. Except for the developed central cities, other places are not able to develop very well. There are also various resource shortages such as "power generation with love". More important is the mentality of both "friendly" and "hostile" between the two sides of the strait.
All of these make me empathize with the inter-Korean relationship in this drama. There is a Korean uu in the group who also expressed her sense of substitution for the show. This is very life-like in the handling of the play, and it is directly reflected in the language (different intonation and wording). In the second half, many people criticized the Koreans for looking down on North Korea. I saw more of the South Koreans' friendliness to North Korea, just as the first half of the Koreans were to the heroine. What impressed me was that the first team of the male protagonist was arrested, and the Korean police's attitude towards them: they did not directly label them as spies, but respected them to a certain extent, and then sympathized with the male protagonist after getting to know them. Maybe it's because our audience is mostly inland, so we can't empathize with this subtle emotion.
In addition, I want to say that some people think that the whole drama is South Korea's yy to North Korea. I don't think so. In addition to the information collected by Baidu to the screenwriter for this drama, interviews and research, etc. More importantly, I didn't feel the writer's satire on North Korea. The first half of the play saw more depictions of the simple folk customs of North Korea, and the second half explored the specific pain ("missing") of the split on the people in more depth.
2. The thinness of love
Another reason for thinking that this show is not good may be that love is too thin and untenable. This is also a common problem in many Korean romance dramas. Love came too fast, even a little shallow, but the hero and heroine remained unswerving? This makes one wonder if such love is real. There is nothing special about the reason why the hero and heroine love each other in the play, it is the same as ordinary urban men and women, so when they are parted and die, everyone is not able to substitute, especially in today's eternal love The age when lies have been broken.
In fact, it can be seen that this show is trying hard not to become bloody. For example, they repeatedly said that they only miss 6 months after leaving, which is quite in line with the modern love "widowhood". But later, the love began to feel like a sea. The male protagonist ran to South Korea to save the female protagonist regardless of his family, and the female protagonist had no intention of career in order to save the male protagonist. Including the female protagonist who is basically weak in the later stage, jumping repeatedly in the ward and emergency room, the style of painting is really bloody. This may also be the place to dissuade a whole bunch of people.
Maybe the screenwriter wants to reflect the more concrete and tangible pain of the division of the country to the people by trying to describe the tragedy that the hero and heroine cannot love. After all, the screenwriter can make aliens and earth people together, but can't make North Koreans and South Koreans together.
This can also explain from one aspect why the late love is bloody. In the final analysis, the reason why the audience does not buy it is that modern people do not really believe in the so-called lasting and unswerving love.
As the president of the play said: there is only one life, one person is willing to give his life to another person, this kind of love is very great and heavy. Male 2 did it, and the female protagonist has it, but we no longer believe it when watching the drama.
Thanks for this drama to reinforce my love utopia once again.
