I have never watched this legendary movie. I know that it has a certain status in the history of horror movies, so I have high expectations for it and hope it can bring me the enjoyment of "Alien".
Also...Yes, the monster can indeed make me call "Holy Fuck", but I always feel that the five stars in Centrifugation are a bit worse.
One of the biggest reasons is that I can't distinguish the characters-there are too many of them, there are more than a dozen people, let alone remembering names (it has always been difficult for me). I can quickly sort out the relationship between the main characters, such as who has a position of power (Leader), who has a lower status, and who has a personality. But it is still very difficult to distinguish the behavior and location of the dozen or so people. This reduces my nervousness, because I have to keep identifying who he is? Who is he? He seems to be in that room just now? Was he or he who just died?
Think about "Alien", although there are seven characters, but its level is very clear: the most terrible death occurred in the front (inspiring event), announcing the official beginning of the event, hope and despair exist in everyone's heart at the same time (including audience). After that, everyone's actions and death methods also appeared one after another, gradually pulling me into a kind of irreversible despair, and I began to look forward to a miracle.
This is not the case with "Strange Forms". Everyone is not working together to get rid of the monsters. They suspect each other and even frame each other. This is a process that drives ordinary people crazy and requires a very complicated plot design, but I see Later, even if they formed small gangs, even if they started to cooperate, I would still be confused, and I always felt that something was missing, which reduced the credibility of the plot.
Lack of pressure.
I can't see the pressure of the main character-not that he doesn't, it's just that his performance is too calm. Why did he never doubt that he might have been parasitized too? Why do you not feel weak in the face of fewer and fewer companions? Why is he not crazy yet?
This is also the reason why the characters did not give me enough credibility.
I think of the eighth episode "Ice" of the first season of "X-Files". The film was made in the same way. There were only four of them, and they staged a wonderful closed horror story. You can compare it.
