The story takes place in Newcastle in the north of England. Because of the subprime mortgage crisis, Ricky not only lost his job, but also took on huge debts. In order to make a living, Ricky took out a loan to buy a small truck, and planned to start the second spring of his career by delivering goods. Who knew that his unthought-out move had brought irreparable damage to the whole family. Ricky's wife, Abby, is a domestic worker specializing in services for the disabled and the elderly. Today, she has to rely on the bus to travel to and from different employers' homes, which makes her very tired. Ricky has to spend more of his time at work in order to pay off the loan on the van, leaving their eldest son, Seb, in the cold.
