Unforgettable grandfather

Rick is a very charming character. Unlike Doctor Who, who is full of humanitarian concerns, Rick is very cynical and an extreme egoist. His first rule of doing things is how can it benefit me. When there is a conflict of interest, he will not hesitate to deprive the other party of life. When he made a mistake and accidentally destroyed the world, he would not hesitate to leave the world and leave. Because of the excessively diversified reference of the play and the imaginative blank space of the plot, it can be infinitely extended to become any kind of thing or deny any kind of thing in its world view. You can justify yourself anytime. Therefore, this play is neither suitable for rashly analyzing the relationship between characters nor for analyzing the setting of the plot world view.

But there's one thing that's more consistent throughout the show, and for the most part Rick makes no secret of his contempt for the world and others. Most of the time, the way he treats his Grandchildren and Son in law is casual, and can even be described as mean (venomous tongue).

At first I didn't feel strongly about this setting. Recently, however, I've come to feel that this is a culture of respect for a strong personality that is unattainable to some extent. Rick didn't have any sense of superiority as an elder, and he didn't lower the standards for Morty and Summer just because they were minors. He applied the same standards to Morty, Summer, and even Jerry, and then made a contemptuous judgment. Rick's unanimous lack of pity and sympathy for all things also means that he gives them the pre-existing respect they have as individuals.

This kind of respect from an independent personality is difficult to experience in family relationships in many Asian countries. (Most of the time, everyone will use the identity relationship, resource mobilization, and economic ability to carry out a game of strength and weakness. The weak side loses its independent personality and the main right to speak to its own life trajectory.)

Maybe you don't have a grandpa like Rick, but it's still cool if you can break through the barriers and become such an elder.

Morty Smith: And how are you gonna do that?

Summer Smith: I don't know yet. I'll make it up as I go. That's what Grandpa Rick does. That's what heroes do.

  • [repeated line]

Rick Sanchez: I gotta take a shit. I'm gonna go take a shit.
