Rick can never be a common scientist. However, what surrounds him is no more than an ordinary family full of unstable atomosphere. Morty, as his grandson, cherishes the relationship between them two and is always willing to take adventures all over the universe. That is not common for a high school student.
What impresses me most was the fact that his wife and daughter were both dead in the real world. But there is what we call as "parallel world", and in the infinite worlds Rick has complete family. So what is for real? Which truth should Rick choose to live on with? No one knows, I suppose that is part of the reasom why he stays drunken most of hia time.
