The reason for the journey was that the little boy remembered his mother he had never met and wanted to meet his mother who was far away in Aichi. Uncle's wife couldn't bear that the little boy could not see his mother, so he sent her husband to take the toll to accompany the child to find his mother.
Unexpectedly, the uncle was a gambler and lost all the tolls, so they had to walk to Aichi and hitch a ride along the way. Stealing food, smashing car windows, threatening and coercing, puncturing car tires, the uncle has done everything, just to accompany the little boy to Aichi. At the BUS station on the side of the road, they waited for two days and two nights, but no car was willing to take them. The uncle tried his best to pretend to be blind and pitiful, and finally a wandering poet was willing to send them there. Finally they found the little boy's mother, but she already had a new home, and the little boy could only cry and leave. On their way home, they met wandering poets, fat men and bald men. The uncle once forced the bell from the fat man to comfort the little boy in an almost robbery way, saying that the angel would come to rescue him. The four of them, accompanied by a child, went out to camp and spent a happy summer vacation. Good times are always short, and they went back to Tokyo anyway.
Takeshi Kitano is good at expressing situations with details, and prefers to show situations from different angles. Looking out from the bottom of the wine glass to the mouth of the glass; from the reflection of the tire, the lens is rotated; even from the perspective of the dragonfly, there are many things of everything, tiled in the field of view. The pace of the film is very slow, and many places have been fast-forwarded many times, but nothing has changed. However, because of this, this is a movie that people can savor and move slowly.
This is a typical road movie. The journey starts from the road in Tokyo and ends on the road in Tokyo, everything goes back to where it started, as if things never happened and time never passed. In the first half, I didn't think this uncle was so good, but he did not have a single complaint. When they spent two days and two nights at the BUS station, the uncle found that the little boy was in the same situation as him, and the feeling of pity was born spontaneously. They finally found where their mother lived, but there was no more room for the little boy, he understood immediately, turned away, twitched his shoulders, and wiped his tears with the back of his hands. The small, trembling figure made my uncle's heart and mine tremble with him.
Before the little boy saw his mother, the uncle joked with the little boy that if he married the little boy's mother in the future, the little boy would have to call him father. The little boy turned around and left sadly, and the uncle tricked an angel's bell to come back without telling him that it was a token left by his mother. The little boy is not a fool, he knows that his mother will not belong to him. He and his uncle built a sand pile of angel bells on the beach. When he left, the little boy held the uncle's hand tightly and looked at the uncle. His lips moved, as if he wanted to call "Dad". Although he didn't say it, the uncle seemed to understand and held his hand. Hands move forward. The two figures walking on the beach gave me the illusion that they were really father and son. But who can say that this is an illusion, there really is such a family relationship between them.
At the carnival, the uncle caused a lot of trouble everywhere. The scene of catching goldfish reminded me of the scene when Slam Dunk was catching goldfish in Sakuragi, the same domineering, the same unreasonable. But the uncle was beaten badly by a group of people who collected protection fees. When he appeared in front of the little boy with blood all over his face, lied to him that he had rolled down the stairs. This scene made me want to cry. My words were too pale and could not express the emotions conveyed at that time. This is probably the "violence aesthetics" advocated by Takeshi Kitano, right? The little boy bought medicine for him and helped him treat his wound. The uncle said, "Thank you, boy! I'm sorry!" The
next few days were about the happiest days of this summer vacation. A bald boy, a fat boy, and a wandering poet accompany the uncle and the little boy to camp. Playing endless tricks during the day. One, two, three, wooden man!
Good times are always short, and there is no lasting feast in the world. The uncle and the little boy are going back to Tokyo. Uncle, what's your name? Kijiro, fuck it, get out! The answer is finally revealed, this uncle who has nothing to do is Kikujiro! This is not only the summer of the little boy Masao, but also the summer of Kikujiro.
