"Sir,
what's your name?"
"Kiujiro, fuck it, get out!" It's

hard to imagine Takeshi Kitano making such a movie of virginity - "Kujiro's Summer". In my impression, he is a representative of violence. Whether directing or acting, he is definitely a cruel and cold-blooded man. Here, is he looking for the summer of childhood?

A young boy, Zheng Nan, who lives with his mother-in-law, goes to find his mother who has never met alone during the lonely summer vacation. Later, he embarked on a journey of search with an Oguisan. But that Oguisan was an unscrupulous hooligan, taking him to gamble and causing him to be molested by a wretched uncle. But he was just a child, and he could only watch Ojisan smash other people's car windows, prick people's tires, and steal other people's corn to sell... His various child-like pranks made people laugh.

Guessing that this Ogi-san used to be a gangster, because he has a Ukiyo-e portrait tattoo on his back, and the various behaviors of blackmailing bad boys when he appeared, it can be seen that he used to be a gangster, and it is very likely that he had just was released. He was asked by his wife to take Zhengnan to find his mother, but he didn't take it seriously. When I saw that Zheng Nan's mother had a new family later, I felt very sad, and felt that Zheng Nan was just like my younger self. From then on, he decided to make Zhengnan happy!

He asked the locomotive man for a crystal angel bell, and told Zhengnan that it wasn't his mother who lived in that house. His mother moved, so he left the angel bell and waited for Zhengnan to take it when he came to her. When the bell was shaken, an angel flew to help him realize his wish. Oguisan used his white lies to comfort the lost Zhengnan, and later decided to go camping together. At this time, there were three other people--the fat sister-in-law combined with the motorcycle man, and the good-hearted writer who traveled everywhere. After they knew Zhengnan's story, they all wanted to make him happy. Some dress up as big monsters, some dress up as aliens, and they make Zhengnan happy with their hearts.

This is the story of four unhappy adults and a child, which warms my heart after reading it. Most assholes have had an unfortunate childhood, and it's a tragedy when the shadows of childhood fill their lives. Both Kikujiro and the motorcycle man are middle-aged, and they are still small gangsters that people look down on. In fact, they all want to be redeemed! They really want to make Xiao Zhengnan happy. In fact, they are trying to redeem themselves, just like they hoped that they would be loved by many kind strangers when they were young.

Later, Kikujiro went to visit his mother who had given up on him, and looked at this poor old man in a nursing home from a distance, so he should no longer hate him!

Masao who returned to Tokyo was running happily, and the angel wings behind him were dangling on the small schoolbag, as if flying...

Here, Joe Hisaishi's soundtrack is very cheerful and cute, especially when they put the leaves of the water taro on top of it. When I put it on my head, I can't help but think of "My Neighbor Totoro". The leaves of the water taro are very similar to the leaves on the top of the chinchilla's head, aren't they?

  • Masao: By the way, Mister, what is your name?

    Kikujiro: It's Kikujiro, dammit.

  • [after trying out several unkind methods to get a ride with someone, Masao and Kikujiro finally succeeds]

Masao: You see? Asking politely is easier.

    Kikujiro: [chuckles] Shut up, smart-ass.
