I watched this film for Duras' "The Lover". I can only say that the heroine should be a little rougher and the effect will be better. Duras' experience is unique and unfortunate in our eyes, but I always feel that without these experiences, her writing might not have a different flavor. Also, don't try to understand Duras. Without the same experience, we will never be able to fully understand. We can only experience, watch, and tolerate those who say Duras is a prostitute because they can't see through her. A woman's inner struggle can't see the hurt heart, she can only see the performance and use her so-called morality to evaluate everything.
In the movie, my favorite part is the part where the heroine hides in the crowd to watch Tony Leung Ka Fai's wedding and finally weeps silently on the passenger ship. There was no sunlight in the large room with the high ceiling, and although it sometimes scattered, it still felt gloomy and cold. This is how I feel. The noise outside the house is real, as is the Chinese restaurant by the river. Only that room is illusory.
A woman still remembers those afternoons, even the light and shadow, the noisy streets, more than fifty years after it happened. Duras' heart can't be described with a single word; we can only experience it slowly and understand it slowly, but we can never really fully understand that feeling. I believe there is love between her and him, but that love is too vague and too small. It is not enough to resist all the other things in life. Many times, we can only choose to compromise, and the first victim is illusory love.
