Gaze of the Abyss

No one knows what Hank Quinlan was thinking when he fell.

The old man Mansis's blood dripped on the back of his hand, one drop, two drops, three drops, dark red.

"Pete, this is the second bullet I have suffered for you"

But it was also the last bullet.

Officer Vargas is tall and handsome, and his newlywed wife Susie is sweet and lovely. Although the trapping of good people is filled with indignation, the police officer's search process is thrilling, and the reunion at the end also makes the audience who hold their hearts excited.

But maybe I'm not the only one, moved by Hank Quinlan's death.

The moment his fat back fell into the dross-filled sewage did not cause any splashes. But at that moment, it seemed that even the execution of justice had faded a lot.

That's right, Hank Quinlan is a badass in an absolute sense. He has worked in the police station for 30 years and solved hundreds of homicides with his famous "intuition". He is a reliable subordinate in the boss's heart, and an invincible presence in his partner's heart. The villain is frightened when he hears his name.

But when Officer Vargos read the dossier, he found that the key to solving the case was "evidence" that shouldn't exist at all. The name of Quinlan's "superior detective" is mostly derived from his frame of suspects.

"How about the people he put on death row? Save them your tears."

Officer Vargos said to Mansis.

Yes, if these people are "framed" by him, what if these people are not guilty?

When Quinlan played, he was an arrogant, cold, and obscene fat guy. The world is not friendly to the fat man, and when the fat man talks about strippers and the male protagonist who is righteous from heaven, the world is even more unfriendly to him.

Quinlan's mask shattered for the first time, in the mouth of the old man Mansis. Mansis, this incompetent old good man, drove the heroine Susie to the motel, talked about Quinlan and his lame with admiration, and said how he saved his life.

"Captain Quinlan!"

Mansis replied loudly, dissatisfied with the heroine's question "who are you talking about?". It seems that in this small city close to Mexico, it is an evil not to have heard of Sheriff Quinlan’s name. With a proud face, he talked about how Quinlan quit drinking, "I thought it was the bravest thing Hank had ever done", "I can work without sleeping".

As Quinlan revealed his hideous face, he tortured the weak suspect brother, and insisted on the existence of evidence by talking nonsense in front of the male protagonist. After collaborating with the villain, the mask of the villain shattered for the second time. In front of Mansis, his trusted and admired partner, he talked about his wife's death when he was young and ignorant. Quinlan talked about her hard pursuit and the criminal escaped from the French Open but died unexpectedly in Belgium.

"This is the last criminal to escape from my palm."

Quinlan said.

"Vargos wants to fight corruption. This is the fight he will get."

Suddenly, the fat face of the villain sheriff became a bit more deep and determined.

Sheriff Quinlan, is it really a sinner as we have seen?

Oh, I just remembered that when I wrote it, Quinlan's mask was broken once before. It was midnight when the wind blew old newspapers everywhere, and a group of police detectives and DA heard Tana's automatic piano playing from a distance. The eyes of the fat man smoking candy suddenly lit up, and a layer of mist was enveloped between the eyebrows of the beauty who had experienced the vicissitudes of life.

"I didn't recognize you." The beauty took a look at his deformed body. "You shouldn't eat sweets anymore."

"Either candy or spirits. I wish I grew so fat because of your peppers."

Quinlan looked at the old lover with a gentle smile in the wrinkles around her eyes.

It seemed that he was watching that good time.

During that period of trouble, you can bring two boxes of whiskey and hide in Tana's house for two or three days of good time.

But he gave up drinking after all. Farewell to Tana. Never look back.

Has he made the final choice since then, choosing to embrace the abyss and stepping into the darkness that cannot be turned back?

No one can know it anymore.

At the time of this story, Quinlan did three dirty things: framed the poor boy who deceived the rich girl, killed the gang boss, framed the heroine Susie.

Finally, the poor boy recruited, and he did kill the father of the rich girl.

The gang boss and his men are full of evil deeds.

The hostess did not suffer substantial harm, was not injected with drugs, and did not leave a criminal record.

However, this is just a perfect coincidence. What if the poor boy did not commit a crime? What if Susie is unfortunately hurt by gangsters? What if the gang boss deserves to die?

Who can guarantee that every case in Quinlan’s thirty years has been “coincidentally” so perfect that the guilty will be tried and the innocent will be justice? Who insured his steel wire rope, and who can swear on his behalf, that he has never "wronged the law", has not been biased or unfair?

Some people have accepted the kiss of darkness in their fate.

No one can explain what kind of ability it is, as if the devil has grabbed you firmly at a certain critical moment and place.

You have not become the devil, but you also know that you can no longer be yourself.

You think in a devil's way, you look at your surroundings with the darkest eyes, wherever you pass, everything you see, it seems like a ghost fire is burning. Those people look back at you, you can tell without a second glance, those people have devil horns on their heads. Just like the pair on your own head.

You don't need evidence. You know where they are. You know who they are. You know what they have done.

It is not difficult to persuade the jury and the judge. It is not difficult to convince your experienced but somewhat stupid colleagues.

The hard part is to convince yourself.

You try to escape that obstacle. You try to tell yourself that you are still a normal, kind citizen. You try to get yourself drunk, pretending that you don't have that ability. You try not to look at the completely deformed face in the mirror.

You try to remember, Tana, and those good years.

But those invisible hands grabbed you firmly. The rope is choked in your throat.

In the end, you still took that step.

Mansis, what am I going to tell you, I didn't frame anyone. Each of them is guilty, and I pronounce judgment on them for God.

However, sooner or later I will go to God and accept my judgment.

"How do you evaluate others, is it really that important?"

"When you stare at the abyss, the abyss is staring at you."

He fell face down into the pool of sewage, and his soul had already fallen into the abyss.

But, Sheriff Quinlan, do you really want to be saved?

Or, is it really that important to you not to be saved?
