Easy Virtue - Poplar

The film was watched in two installments, and the first half of the film felt mundane, seemingly endlessly talking about household chores. After the war, an American female racer followed her second husband to his English hometown. There she was out of tune with the people around her. The people there still live in the peaceful atmosphere before the war. They are gentlemen and nobles everywhere, carefully maintain the castle facilities every day, and can't go wrong with every traditional program. They will carefully prepare the annual hunt and plan the New Year's dance. The war has nothing to do with them.

Does it really matter? There are people in the village who came back from the war, but he is already an alternative in the whole village. Now that the American woman in the race car came to the village, it was like putting a live fish into a dead pond, and all the people were talking about it. Some people are willing to accept her new style and are convinced by her bold actions; some people just want to flirt with her; some people hate her because she steals the limelight from others; some people don't like her because they don't. Love the new ideas and things she brings.

In this old English village, the gentlemen and ladies who have lived here for generations are disliked by women who drive racing cars, smoke, dress well, like abstract paintings, and don’t like hunting. The fact is that the UK doesn't like the US. In the eyes of the British, America was still a savage and hopeless pagan. American life is all bohemian and ungentlemanly. They do not like the changed new world, they are not used to the reality that Britain has been replaced by the United States as the world hegemon, and they do not recognize the independent and innovative spirit of the Americans.

The British gentleman's view of love is that if you love me, it will change for me; while the American woman's view of love is that if you love you, you will be free. In the village's environment of exclusion and control, the once passionate love withered. Two lovers who have their own interpretations of love can only regretfully part ways after a lengthy collision of thoughts.

In the early post-war period, Britain would eventually be overtaken by the United States.

Both male protagonists are superb. Envy the heroine.

The music is so good, and the ending tango is simply amazing. Uncle Face put on the dress, as if Darcy reappeared in a trance. Although the son is very handsome, when Lao Tzu appears, it makes people feel that there is nothing wrong with him. The ending is very good, even if they didn’t run away but just took a ride, the chorus of the ending song is quite memorable^_^

Easy Virtue quotes

  • Mrs. Whittaker: Is it true you've had as many lovers as they say?

Larita Whittaker: [gets up from the dinner table] Of course it's not true, Mrs. Whitaker. Hardly any of them actually loved me.

  • Larita Whittaker: People are so universally similar when their guard is down.

Mr. Whittaker: Seems they are universally similar when their guard is up, as well.
