This is the first in a series of film reviews.
The first "The Matrix" was released in 1999. The first time I came into contact with the pirated disc I watched, I didn't understand it at all. I just thought it was a great movie. It was not until after a few years that I watched the animated version that a relatively complete Matrix universe was established in my mind. Then I heard that the brothers who created the dirty driver, of course, have now become the sisters of the dirty driver. The film created by "Team", so it supplemented Oshii Mamoru's "Ghost in the Shell", and the philosophical thinking of "The Matrix" has just touched the edge.
It is true that in China back then, when home computers and the Internet were not very popular, this kind of movie was difficult to understand. Now almost 20 years have passed, I have re-watched these movies many times, and every time they are a bit new. Feel. The most frightening thing is that the movie is not outdated, no one can surpass it in terms of special effects, actions, or ideological content.
I don’t know how young people now watch these old movies. Just follow my personal understanding and start with "The Matrix Animation". Of course, if you are interested, please watch "Ghost in the Shell" first. You can't go wrong. The "The Matrix" series is very brain-burning for most people. If you have never watched the 3 live-action movies at all, some things are not easy to understand directly watching the animated version, but if you watch it first like I did back then The live version may not understand, this is a process of mutual confirmation.
So for friends who have never seen this series, or have not understood at all, my suggestion is to read the 2 and 3 stories in the animated version first. The animated version has a total of 9 short stories, of which 2 and 3 can be connected. These two stories are told in the form of data files and documentaries. How humans become slaves to machines, the whole hacker The premise of the Empire series.
Second Renaissance I
In the beginning, there were only people. Civilization used to be prosperous. Later, human beings made robots just like themselves. The first period of time was still good. Robots took on almost all the heavy manual labor, while humans were quite harsh on the tools they made. Until one day, a robot of model B1-66ER shredded its owner, and it was immediately tried. As a result, all robots of the same model were terminated. Then it quickly evolved into a large-scale slaughter of robots by humans.
The exiled robot came to Canaan, the birthplace of mankind, and established a new country called [ZERO-ONE], which is 0 and 1.
ZERO-ONE quickly developed AI that surpassed human wisdom, and the manufacturing industry led the way, resulting in a decline in human society and economy. Therefore, mankind began to impose an economic blockade on ZERO-ONE in an attempt to isolate the machine country. ZERO-ONE sent an ambassador to the United Nations, hoping to live in harmony with mankind, but mankind did not agree.
Second Renaissance II
Humans took the lead in launching a war, using nuclear weapons to attack Zero-ONE, but robots are not afraid of the high temperature and radiation generated by nuclear bombs. The machines began to counterattack in an all-round way, and many human worlds were occupied.
Humans came up with the ultimate solution. They believed that the machine's energy was mainly from solar energy, so they created a black screen to obscure the sun.
However, it is still useless. The machine is very familiar with the human body. It collects and utilizes the bioelectricity generated by human emotions and sorrows to become a convenient energy source for the machine.
Mankind ultimately failed completely, and was forced to sign an agreement at the United Nations to obey the control of the machine and become a slave to the machine.
Machines began to cultivate human embryos on a large scale, connecting people's thinking and dreams to the network, forming an illusory human society, and powering the world of machines. This network system is Matrix.
Probably that's it. So how to understand and appreciate this story?
First, let’s talk about the "battery theory" that many people complain about. Obviously, according to real physics, it is not economical to use human emotions to generate electricity. With the capabilities of machine AI, it should be easy to be a nuclear power plant, and it is not afraid of nuclear power. Leak, what kind of "bio-electricity" is needed. So what I want to say is that science fiction should not be forced to compare with reality. The creator must have her thinking about this setting. If the machine is set to use nuclear power to generate electricity, humans will be destroyed instantly, and there will be no story to read, right?
If anyone has watched the live-action trilogy first, they will know Zion [Zion], the secret base for humans to resist machine enslavement. And the beginning of the Second Renaissance said that the Zion [Zion] database was called. In fact, it was said in the movie that Zion [Zion] had been destroyed 5 times, and there was no database at all.
Then this piece of history is the history written by machines, and the credibility must be compromised. So what is the possible truth? The entire Matrix series is actually the evolutionary history of machines. Humans living in Matrix are simulation tools used by machines to research and upgrade systems .
In other words, it took so much effort. We watched a fake story, and the storytelling method is very plain, there is no suspense, as an animation work alone, it is relatively low. Is it really? My personal understanding is that watching literary works requires not only being able to enter a play, but also being able to play. Entering a play is to experience emotions based on the development of the plot, and playing a play is to test the logic of the story from the perspective of God.
The first point of appreciation of these two short stories is the copywriting . Some students may not be able to hold back. Excuse me? Let me watch the animation. Do you let me appreciate the copywriting? If you are a design student, you will know that there is a saying in design called "copywriting first." Whether it is film and television works or other types of design, most of them are to create copywriting first. The copywriting of these two animations is written according to the structure of the Bible . There are a few obvious examples. The Bible says that "God created mankind in his own way."
The animation says "human beings created robots in their own way." In the Bible, "God said that there should be light, so there is light." In the animation, "people said that there should be light, so humans detonated a nuclear bomb."
To understand from the perspective of copywriting, you will find the ambition of animation creation. This is a machine epic, and it can be mutually confirmed with the real human religious history, which is a bit interesting.
Then the screen can also find some details. For example, when humans enslaved the machine, the robot seemed to be building a huge pyramid-shaped building. This is the biblical story [Exodus]. Pharaoh enslaved the Israelites to build the pyramids, and Moses led the Israelis to escape from Egypt and build their own homeland in accordance with the guidance of God Jehovah.
In the animation, the robot escaped human slavery and came to the once-human holy land "Canaan" to establish ZERO-ONE. Obviously, this story is from the standpoint of the machine, writing the history of machine development, and trying to find the legitimacy of the machine's rule. Isn't it interesting?
