Confused love story

The movement of the actors in the film is very small, almost staying still, and the performance is like taking a plane photo, creating a strange feeling in the film. The same almost static scene is represented by different angles of multiple shots at the same time, and the fast switching of shots makes the movie even more eerie. The shooting techniques are also very pioneering. Close-up shots are inserted into repeated pictures, and the camera moves (people) to show the relationship between characters, overexposure, etc. The use of these techniques is unique in this gorgeously decorated black-and-white film. and aesthetics (I think a modern film in color would look horrific). The lines are also one of the reasons for the alienation of the film. The protagonist seems to be reciting an endless poem, with few emotional ups and downs, and mostly narrative lines that tell a story. It makes me think that even listening to the lines alone, I can imagine a story. If it was shot according to the usual shooting methods, this film might just be an elopement love story with a little suspense, but the avant-garde way of expressing it makes it seem confusing. Really amazing movie. (My favorite shots: 11 minutes, 17 minutes 35 seconds, 20 minutes, 21 minutes, 38 minutes, 1:43 seconds, 1:10,46 seconds, 1:21 minutes fifty-six seconds)

Time and space are no longer the carrier of stories, reality and fantasy ride the boat of memory and float on the river of consciousness

Love is unbelievable, blurred, and ambiguous. Isn't this the most typical movie that people who pretend to be 13 must talk about, it's hard to appreciate.

Last Year at Marienbad quotes

  • X: I must have you alive. Alive, as you have already been every evening, for weeks, for months.

A: I have never stayed so long anywhere.

X: Yes, I know. I don't care. For days and days. Why don't you still want to remember anything?

A: You're raving! I'm tired, leave me alone!

  • X: [Last Lines] The grounds of the hotel were symmetrically arranged, without trees or flowers, or plants of any kind. The gravel, the stone, and the marble were spread in strict array in unmysterious shapes. At first sight, it seemed impossible to lose your way. At first sight... Along these stone paths and amidst these statues, where you were already losing your way forever in the still night, alone with me.
