The film won the 1985 The Jury Prize in Cannes, when I first saw this film, I thought that the theme of the film would be the friendship of two men, or a fable about strange people and strange things like "The Lightning Miracle", until halfway through the film, the real theme - "Vietnam War" Trauma" was gradually brought out! In the film, the two protagonists left their own scars after the war. Al was physical and Birdy was spiritual. The director used Birdy, an innocent young man who loves birds and nature, to bring out how the war destroyed the United States. In the hearts of young people, the anti-war intention is far-reaching.
Birdy loves birds, yearns for the sky, and is incompatible with human society. Various settings are easily reminiscent of the male protagonist Jacques in "Blue Sea and Blue Sky". As the only bridge between Birdy and the human world, Al can also interact with the character Enzo. In contrast, and the two protagonists have the most relatives who are animals, the biggest difference between the two films should be that there is no female protagonist in the "Birdman" film to get in the way (laughs)! I feel that Lu Besson really borrowed a lot from this film when he was shooting.
In order to get closer to birds, Birdy put on a bird man suit full of bird feathers and climbed up the roof of the factory in the middle of the night. To others, it seemed like a madman. Say you are proud.
Birdy stumbled and fell from the roof, breaking him into a cold sweat. (This hug is really loving)
Birdy, who is in the mental ward, seems to have forgotten about Al, and thinks that he is a bird and can't even take care of himself.
In the film, Birdy turned into a bird in a dream, various poetic images, and the shots of shuttles in the building, looking down on the town from the sky as if flying, really shocking! This is also one of my favorite parts of the whole film.
The finishing touch of the final scene seems to be beyond the expectations of many people, and it also draws a perfect ending for the film.
Can you still fly?
Do you still want to fly?
If you want to fly, just fly! Even if flying is doomed to fall, fly!
