Love In The Time of Cholera

Just finished watching the movie "Love in the Time of Cholera", the author of the original is Marquez who won the Nobel Prize for Literature for "One Hundred Years of Solitude", but this novel has little to do with the author's famous magical realism, in the author's words Say: "Everything is serious and measured". The story is serious and even procrastinated, for nearly two and a half hours, the hero and heroine go from year in bloom to old age, and then to forever. To tell this story in one sentence, it may be summed up as: the hero and heroine are too young to love each other, and half a century later, they have no right to love each other because of their old age. After using it for a day, after reading it off and on, I felt that it was a very touching work, which seemed to touch some extremely secret things in my heart.

I have never believed in love. I feel that those Korean dramas are too naive and unreal, and I have never encountered them in real life. But in this work, the love between the hero and heroine, to be precise, the love between the hero Florentino Ariza and the heroine, the love for 53 years, 7 months and 11 days and nights, is really unforgettable and convincing. I believe in the existence of love. There are many kinds of love, almost all of them are included here. Of course, the most unforgettable one should be the hero's love, which is like a cholera outbreak. Yes, when love comes, it's like cholera, so unprepared, heart-wrenching, and dark, and in the end, only the feeling of wanting to vomitting is left. Florentino Ariza's mother said, child, enjoy love, suffer the pain in love. Ariza's dad, who died at the beginning of the story, said, "The only regret I have about dying is that I didn't die for love."

Anyone who has watched the movie should think that Fermina Daza is lucky, there are two men in her life who love her so much. A man wrote those love letters engraved with beautiful verses for her, and he has been waiting silently by the side, never disturbing her when he sees her happiness. Another man shelters her from the wind and rain, gives her worldly love, bread and house, robes and children, even if she accidentally cheats, she will turn back immediately. Yes, Fermina Daza is lucky, and even more so because the author Marquez loves her and gives her everything a woman wants in the novel.

Just about love, there are still some incomprehensible. Does a man's derailment mean a betrayal of love?

If so, how to explain Florentino Ariza's behavior. Waiting for half a century, waiting for his queen. In the initial wait, Ariza tried to keep his virginity, but after the subsequent setback in love, he began to repeat the process of finding-lost-searching on countless women's bodies. In his own words "I have more atriums than rooms in a brothel".

If not, then both Dr. Juvenal Urbino and Florentino Ariza have cheated, or at least physically betrayed Fermina Daza. Why is this kind of love still love, and it still touches us?

Love in the Time of Cholera quotes

  • Fermina Urbino: The only thing that hurts me is that I don't have enough strength to give you the beating that you deserve for being so insolent and evil-minded. But you will leave this house right now and I swear to you on my mother's grave that you will not set foot in it again as long as I live. Life crippled that poor man 50 years ago, because he was too young and now you want to do it because we are too old.

  • Florentino Ariza: I discovered to my joy, that it is life, not death, that has no limits.
