S5E14, finally finished watching. After reading a lot of drama reviews, I feel that my feelings are still different. I want to write a few sentences before the end, and I will update if I have new feelings after reading it~
First of all, Lao Bai is very powerful and has a high IQ, but his motivation has not always been family, or not all. I think Lao Bai needs to be recognized, respected and seen in his heart. This is the original driving force that drives him to make drugs and build an empire. He is not a pure villain. He has feelings, which is the so-called family bottom line. At the same time, it is difficult for him to completely trust others. Whether it is for Mike, his wife, or even Xiaofan, he is more willing to "manipulate" Xiaofan. It wasn't for reaching a cooperation with him, such a character defect made it impossible for him to become a generation of drug lords and achieve a huge empire after all. (It’s not as good as Uncle Fried Chicken. The so-called use of people is not suspicious, but suspicious people don’t need to)
On the other hand, Hank, my favorite character from the first four seasons, isn't much of a saint either. In the bottom of his heart, Hank is conceited. In his heart, he completely despises Lao Bai, who will always be his foil. Being fooled by such an old white deeply hurt Hank's heart. To a certain extent, Hank is an unscrupulous person for his purpose, and he is not entirely for justice when he catches Lao Bai. The best proof is that after he caught Lao Bai, he called his wife. I believe that the happiness at that moment has nothing to do with justice, but is just a proof to himself, and the joy of "I won".
As for the other people portrayed in the play, they are all ordinary people. (Uncle Fried Chicken is not ordinary) Lao Bai's daughter-in-law, flight attendant, is not Claire from House of Cards. It is completely impossible to expect her to support Lao Bai like Claire supports Xiamu and achieve her career. This may be the reason why so many people are annoying flight attendants. Stewardess and Lao Bai are essentially not the same kind of people. They have never had a soul, an exchange of ideas, and the man she fell in love with and married to was never a real, complete old white. There has never been communication in this bad marriage relationship. For the audience and Lao Bai, the flight attendant is the bitch who will always hinder Lao Bai from doing important things, but from the perspective of the flight attendant, since the husband became ill, he often disappears, abnormally, and is pregnant. Not having a baby, not caring about me, not communicating with me. Even after Hank died, Lao Bai didn't (of course couldn't) explain the whole process, so from the perspective of the flight attendant and the silly son, Lao Bai killed Hank. The gap between the two is getting bigger and bigger, they can't work together, they can't communicate, and only old white promises that can't be fulfilled again and again. Of course, there is nothing wrong with the flight attendant cheating. Like I said, she's just a flawed normal person.
One of the factors that make this show successful is that it is true and logical. I watched it three times in the entire five seasons before I finished it. The first two times I abandoned the show because I deeply hated the flight attendant and stupid son. I thought they were so stupid and I was so angry. But then I thought about it, and I think the screenwriter never wanted to portray them as the family behind the big drug lord, they are just ordinary people with flaws in character. For example, Xiamu and Claire in House of Cards, and Pablo and his wife in the drug lord (although his wife does not play a lot), such a husband and wife team must first have the same concept and ideal. Here's a word, Hank and Mary's three views are very consistent, and only such a consensus can push the work of one party to a new peak. And Lao Bai and the flight attendant were never the same person from beginning to end. So we see that no matter what Lao Bai does, the stewardess will always be dragging his feet. To put it bluntly, it is doomed to be a tragedy since they choose to get married.
