I recently rewatched Breaking Bad, and even on the fourth rewatch, the look and feel is still great and it makes me addicted. When I first saw this drama in 2013, I was in a state of confusion and ecstasy. The unique personality of the drama is so charming, and the unfathomable character of Lao Bai has brought this drama to a different height.
Superb screenwriting and filming skills
In everyone's perception, TV dramas do not seem to be the opponents of movies. Movies are more concentrated video art, focusing more on lens language and narrative rhythm; while most TV dramas are more "plot", and the progress of the story relies more on dialogue. . And the impression that Poison Master brought to me is far more than that of many movies. It can also be said that the impression and substitution of this show is unparalleled. This is due to the superb screenwriting and filming skills of the team led by Vince Gilligan.
For example, at the beginning of the whole story, in the somewhat ethereal background music, a pair of trousers floated down from the blue sky and yellow sand. In this somewhat abrupt way we get a first glimpse of the protagonist and become interested in the story, what's the situation? In addition, this way of telling in flashbacks runs through the entire play. For example, at the beginning of the second season, the display of the backyard of Lao Bai's house in a dark tone, the first time we see it, we will think that something happened in Lao Bai's house.
Although many American dramas are very attractive in front, they only dig holes and do not fill them, and many of them end in haste. Breaking Bad has a total of 62 episodes in 5 seasons. It looks like a complete big movie. The last season not only exploded in word of mouth, but also rarely set off two climaxes. And all the burdens thrown out in the whole play have been taken back, and there is no phenomenon of only digging holes and not filling them. I have to say that it is a genius screenwriter!
In addition to the superb screenwriting skills, the filming skills of the show are also amazing. The composition, props, visual and performance details are outstanding, and the camera used for shooting is also film (the kind that can take depth-of-field). There are also fixed colors for each character: "Old Bai usually wears a green or dark shirt, skyler is blue, Hank is orange, and Marie is purple.
Laobai's revenge against fate
In addition to the screenwriting skills and high-level shooting on the hardware, the display of human nature and the creation of many full-fledged characters are also the success of the show. Especially the male characters in the play, Lao Bai, Xiaofan, bald scavenger Mike, ruthless drug lord Gus, unscrupulous lawyer Saul, every male character is like a high-speed train, and then violently collided.
The first protagonist in the play, Lao Bai. Lao Bai, ah Lao Bai, if I were to select the most impressive character in the film and television works I have seen, Lao Bai must have one of the top three. At the very beginning, Lao Bai gave us the first impression of a gentle middle-aged uncle, with mediocre hairstyles and ordinary clothes, with intellectual stubbornness and super self-esteem. After learning that he had lung cancer on his 50th birthday, he broke down, gradually awakened and was promoted to a black-bellied saint, and he began to avenge his fate. Remember the party in the first season at his former partner's house. The company he founded when he was young is now a leading company. Because of the betrayal of the two partners, he left with the shares. He has always been brooding about this matter, and there are many opportunities for Lao Bai to retreat, but he has repeatedly walked back to the edge of life and death to lick blood. The foreshadowing of the first season has Lao Bai's statement in the final season: not only for money, nor for drug trafficking, what I want is to run a business empire. At this time, Lao Bai was a lonely king. In the process, he broke the moral bottom line again and again. He was immersed in the thrill of crime. He fell in love with this business of drinking poison to quench his thirst, as the title of the play "Breaking Bad", beyond sin. You can't have both. In the end, he lost his humanity and his family, and everyone was just a pawn in his career. We love the role of Lao Bai, beyond the scope of morality, because he is so real, he has the courage that ordinary people can't let go of, we can see the expansion of his ambition, the conspiracy he carefully planned, and he broke into a king. The brilliance; but his cowardice, his selfishness also let the audience really feel.
Pinkman like a child
Breaking Bad is a very manly drama. Among many tough guys, Xiaofan seems to be one of the less tough guys. He was originally just a little clever gangster, and he was dragged into the poison boat by Lao Bai in a daze. We watched Lao Bai sink deeper and deeper, but Xiaofan always had a good conscience. On the surface, he didn't seem to care about anything, but he was actually very fragile and sensitive. Lao Bai tells a lot of lies to his family, but he is sincere to Jesse, and Xiaofan is like his child.
As for Xiaofan's instructions to Lao Bai, recall that although many were reluctant, they were finally implemented, which also caused him to be very painful (the performance of lying on the hospital bed after being beaten by Hank in the third season was very good). At the same time, he is also the one who is most anxious about the overall situation in the play. When it comes to children and women, he is directly bombarded. In the play, the relationship between Laobai and Xiaofan is very well shaped. Two people as partners of each other, cooperation, disagreement, contradiction, mutual assistance, confrontation (the scene of two people fighting is enough to edit a boxing match), the cold war, a complete break, to the final confrontation, the relationship between the two Changes also promote the development of the plot, and the screenwriter has excavated the relationship between the two to the extreme.
Other supporting roles are also quite brilliant, like Gus, who has endured humiliation for 30 years, and went to Mexico alone. For the old white confrontation, it is a quick move every time. Old Mike, the most powerful individual in the whole play, is devoted to love and righteousness, and is experienced and steady in his work. In the end, he sat by the river and left, more like he was tired of the battles on the rivers and lakes, and wanted to enjoy the quietness of the scenery in front of him. As for lawyer Saul, the crew filmed a spinoff of "Better call saul" with him as the protagonist, which made the drug master fans addicted again. In "Better call saul", I feel that the creators are more confident and the narrative is more stable.
I didn't watch Yue when I came back from Huangshan. After watching this drama, I felt weak when I watched many dramas. No matter how many compliments, it is better to express one's heart with the simplest directness: awesome!
