He said that people call that love, but it has nothing to do with love.
This is the sixth in the story of Kieslowski's Ten Commandments, the Love Commandment.
In the film, he tells the story of a nineteen-year-old post office lad who fell in love with his neighbor, and he spied on her for a year. In order to see her again and again, he forged remittance notices again and again; he even delivered milk for her, deliberately took the milk bottle, and rang her doorbell in the morning; he was jealous of her having sex with other men, and took the gas repair engineer Called her house... But after he expressed his love to this woman, she told him that there is no love, only sex.
The despairing young man ran out of her house and cut his wrist with a knife crying. He dipped his hands into the basin, and the water was dyed red in an instant. In desperation, he chose to commit suicide. At this time, the heroine, who felt that she had hurt him, was writing on the back of the drawing paper, sorry, please come back. But it was already too late.
In the end the lad did not die, he was saved. The female neighbor has fallen in love with him, she has searched all the hospitals to see him; she told him on the wrong phone call at midnight that he was right; she came to the post office to see him, facing him through the glass door. He smiled... When she found him and hurried to him like a young girl, he said, I no longer peep at you.
Kieslowski tells a love story so succinctly and decisively. He didn't seem to say anything, but he said everything. Regrets and misses, beliefs and doubts, love and sex, innocence and sophistication, change and hurt...
In the world of love, opportunities for reciprocity are rare. There is always some kind of deviation that leads to the injury. There is nothing wrong with the female neighbor, she certainly has the right to think that there is no love. The young man is not wrong, he only knows pure lover. It can only be said that the situation in which they met was wrong, and their desire for love was different. One wants the comfort of the soul, the other accepts only the pleasure of the body.
In the beginning, this woman hurt him severely with her sophistication and indifference, making a naive child eager for love desperate to seek a dead end. But by the middle, the plot reversed. Become this woman looking for him everywhere, waiting for him anxiously, staring at him in a dark room, receiving a silent phone call in the middle of the night, thinking it was from him, she nervously said to him, you are right ...
This woman, who has always been mature and arrogant, seems to have been defeated all the way to love... Then what happened later? The post office boy no longer believes in love. At the end of the film, she looked at him with a desolate and bewildered expression. Did she meet a love? Or have you missed it? Or did this innocent man appear just to reflect her vulnerable loneliness?
When Zhang Xiaodong commented on Kieslowski's film, he said that there are beautiful feelings. It's just that modern people are afraid of being hurt, and they are only willing to receive, not to give. Love, then, is often accompanied by hurt, like a mixture of many indistinguishable desires. Everyone says "I love you" with a different interpretation behind it.
Contrary to the title of the film, love cannot be given up after all. Even if people know in their hearts that they will be hurt a thousand times. Wouldn't love be free from these pains? Of course, I'm talking about neither loving nor receiving love. This is the perfect looking option. But no one really chooses it. After all, we can't completely quit love, so we can only accept the sweetness and hurt that will continue to come.
