Feelings of watching "Dream"

"Dream" is composed of eight seemingly independent dreams, fantastic and mysterious, from nature, war to art and life, as if covering all the scenes of human society. In the process of watching the movie, I kept looking for any connection between the eight independent dreams, until the cheerful music played at the funeral ceremony of the last dream, which made me think of the drum pot and sing after the death of Zhuang Zi's wife. In a trance, I found that the film seems to be inextricably linked with Lao Zhuang's Taoism.

Taoism advocates Taoism and nature. Although the scenes of the eight episodes in this film are different, they all show different stages of people and nature getting along with each other.

The first "sun rain" dream was the curiosity and awe of nature in childhood. The fox's marriage stopped and turned back, and the music with Japanese characteristics added a sense of mystery to the whole dream, which could not help but remind people of the religious sacrifices of early human beings.

In the next "Peach Garden" dream, the god of peach trees accused humans of cutting down trees. Logging was the greatest harm to nature before the industrial revolution. The anger of the gods was the first warning from nature to human beings. When all the peach blossoms once again When it is in full bloom, the soundtrack is replaced by the organ playing in the church, which is more sacred.

The third "Blizzard" dream, the mountaineering team met Snow Maiden in the snow. Snow Maiden is a kind of monster in ancient Japanese legends. She has a graceful appearance, but she can mercilessly take people's lives when you break your vows. Beautiful and terrifying, it is a temptation and a challenge. In the end, the mountaineering team saw the camp ahead, or this was nature's reward for keeping the oath.

The dream of the fourth "passage", the dark space, the pale soldiers, the exaggerated dog barking and the sound of footsteps, are all creepy, fully revealing the cruel nature of war. War is the ugly truth after the fig leaf of desire is uncovered, and it goes against the natural morality of human ethics.

The fifth "crow" dream, borrowed from Van Gogh's mouth, "If you observe carefully, you will find that every scene and object in nature has its own beauty. I often get lost in the beauty of nature unconsciously. It's like a dream", showing the insignificance of man in front of nature and the greatness of nature, and even a hint of "harmony between man and nature".

The sixth "Red Mount Fuji" and the seventh "Ogre" dream have specific historical backgrounds. The former is the explosion of a nuclear power plant, while the latter is the attack of atomic bombs and missiles, both of which are the result of high technological development. The bad result is the self-inflicted self-inflicted after the desire inflates. In "The Ogre" there is even mention of pouring milk into a river in order to keep prices up, immediately reminiscent of the absurd and paradoxical situation of the economic crisis of the 1930s, when desire became higher than nature.

The last dream of "Waterwheel Village" is very different in style from the previous ones. Instead, it echoes the beginning and the end. There are many similarities with the first dream. Flowers of various colors are also scattered all over the place. "It's a mountain" has experienced "Looking at a mountain is not a mountain", and finally reached the realm of "Looking at a mountain or a mountain". Although the deceased was the old man's first love, the old man was not sad, but hoped to have a "happy funeral", showing the detachment of life and death, and the liberation of "knowing what it can do and being at ease".

To a certain extent, the eight dreams are displayed in sequence according to the stages of human growth and human civilization development, and the game between nature and human desires runs through. In my opinion, the so-called "nature" not only refers to "nature, but also refers to a kind of law of natural operation between heaven and earth. The law of nature", people should follow the example of the earth, the earth should follow the heaven, and the heaven should follow the "Tao", and it should follow the rules of the world itself. Desires are common to everyone, and facing desires is also a necessary lesson in life. Chasing desires ignorantly and disobeying the rules will only reap the consequences, only breaking the rules may be a very comfortable state of life. In Camus's writings, there is such a person - Sisyphus, who was punished for pushing boulders all day long Going up the mountain, day after day, year after year, he was able to find meaning and motivation in this huge absurdity. Just as Confucius said in the last stage of his life, "in seventy years, he can do what he wants without breaking the rules."

After watching the movie, I felt the tranquility between this and nature, but I also felt lonely. Among these eight dreams, there are few characters as close as in drama films, and the protagonists of each dream are all alone, walking astray. There aren't many lines in the movie, and there are often characters walking alone in the environment, and the audience doesn't even know where they're going, maybe the characters themselves don't know. The loud gasps and footsteps made me feel as if I were with them, walking in these illusory and confused places. I think these characters are looking for something, like a little boy looking for a fox in the depths of the rainbow, like a man looking for Van Gogh in a painting, maybe they are just looking for a shelter, maybe an answer to the soul.

"Dream" is a work made by Akira Kurosawa at the age of 80. He is like the dying old man in the last dream, telling us everything in the past, and making his last words into a movie. My grandfather wrote his memoirs before his death, and at the end he wrote this paragraph: "A person's life is like a play! A person's life is like a dream! As long as one's life lasts for one day, one must live happily. One day!" It has a very similar meaning to the last dream. In fact, these principles have long been said, to obey the rules, to be optimistic and open-minded, but for me, who is still running on the road of life, it is only the words in the book, I am like every dream. The protagonist is looking for his own answer. And only if you search to the end, you may find that the avenue is really simple, but it takes time to find it.

The Ten Commandments are localized in Japan. Since they are eight paragraphs, they are called the Eight Precepts.. Akira Kurosawa used dreams to string together his own life course. Curiosity and love for life at the beginning of life-the desire to conquer nature (including human affairs) when he was young- Examination of life after defeat - the art of conversion - reconsideration of nuclear energy, ecology, man's place in the world - the return to the pastoral in old age The slightly straightforward preaching and radical anti-intellectual tendencies make me dissatisfied, but the film is really beautiful

Before he died, Kurosawa re-interpreted all the great principles he had explained in his previous works with the help of dreams. The colors are very good.

Dreams quotes

  • Nuclear Plant Worker: The red one is plutonium-239. 10,000,000th of a gram causes cancer. The yellow one in strontium-90. It gets inside you and causes leukemia. The purple one is cesium-137. It affects reproduction. It causes mutations. It makes monstrosities. Man's stupidity is unbelievable. Radioactivity was invisible, and because of its danger, they colored it. But that only lets you know which kind kills you.
