1) I want to talk about the nostalgia of the Russians - the unique and special state of mind that each of us Russians have when they are far away from their homeland... As people often say in the West: "Russians are not suitable for migrant"……
When filming "Nostalgia", how could I have imagined that the endless, depressing and painful homesickness in the film would become my later reality? How could I have imagined that, from now until death, I would suffer from this heavy homesickness forever?
2) By the way of the script, Gorchakov's trip to Italy was only temporary. But he dies at the end. In other words, he didn't go back to Russia not because he didn't want to, but because fate dictated it. Nor did I imagine that I would stay in Italy after the filming: I too, like Gorchakov, just obeyed God's arrangement. Another sad event that deepened my thinking was the death of Anatoly Soronitsyn. He played the main role in all my previous films. According to my assumption, Gorchakov in "Nostalgia" and Alexander in "The Sacrifice" are to be played by him. He died of cancer, the disease Alexander was spared, and I myself suffered a few years later.
