"Nobody Knows" was adapted from the Sugamo abandoned baby incident that shocked the whole of Japan in 1988. It was Director Zhi who did not copy his life completely, but made a clever choice. The five children in the original incident became four children in the film. In the original incident, the eldest son who violently abused his younger sister with his gangster friends has become a warm older brother who is sensible, honest, and knows how to care for his younger siblings. Director Shie continued his consistent recording style, abandoning the original dramatic climax in life, but slowly narrating a story that shocked the whole of Japan in the way of life flow.
1. The theme of the film: People who have left
The people who left seem to be the eternal theme in the films directed by Hirokazu Koreeda, the husband who left in "Phantom Light", the people who passed away in "Next Stop, Heaven", the grandma who left in "The Thief Family", "The Walking Dead". The son who left in "Stop", the wife who left in "Deeper than the Sea", the father, mother and Xiaoxue who left in "Nobody Knows", the director sublimated the theme of the film through the people who left.
Although the role of the father in "Nobody Knows" has been missing, there is no doubt that the beginning of all this is inseparable from the departure of the father. The departure of Ming's father caused the mother to keep looking for the next boyfriend, to find the happiness she longed for. This is the reason for the birth of Ming, Jingzi, Shigeru and Xiaoxue, and it is also the mother who lives alone with her four children. The reason is also the reason why the mother finally chose to leave. The departure of her mother directly or indirectly led to Xiaoxue's death. The direct cause of Xiaoxue’s death was falling from a loose chair, and there were two indirect reasons: one was that the mother’s departure caused the children’s living funds to be seriously lacking. They could not obtain the nutritional intake required for their age, resulting in physical strength. Bottom; the second is that when Xiaoxue stood on the chair for the first time to take the cup from the top of the cabinet, Keiko, a mother, did not tell her the danger of this matter, which was a lack of education.
It was the father who left that led to the children's black household status, which made it impossible for them to live an upright life like children of the same age. The three children except Ming were "detained" in the room all day, making their existence "unknown". . It was the mother who left that made the lives of the four children change dramatically from material to spiritual, from curry rice and chocolate beans at the beginning, to making rice with instant noodle soup and eating sushi from convenience stores; from the very beginning Jingzi washes the clothes with care, and her mother arranges their hair until the hanger collapses on the ground, her clothes and hairdo are tattered and her body stinks; from Ming doing her homework seriously, Jing playing the piano, Xiaoxue painting the red skirt for the villain in the painting, and then Ming playing with friends. Game and Kyoko hide in her mother's closet, and Koyuki approaches the exhausted crayons.
The last person to leave in the film is his sister Xiaoxue, who fell to her death from a loose chair. Koyuki's death seems to best fit the theme of "Nobody Knows". She came out of the box and finally returned to the box. She lived in the landlord's sight as a child of relatives and was eventually buried in the river at Haneda Airport. Lawn, her death is unknown except for her siblings and Shahi.
2. Role Analysis
Mother Keiko: The mother in the film is an "unreliable" person, a person who was abandoned but chose to abandon her. The mother is the only person who has left tears in "Nobody Knows". The tears in the corners of her eyes before the sun shines in the early morning suggest the woman's fragile psychology. The careful dress up before going out, the red nail polish, the conversation with Ming in the restaurant, and the coquettish voice all show that this woman is young and immature. The young girl is still full of longing for the future of love and happiness. She is an irresponsible mother, born barren, leaving her children unattended in pursuit of her own happiness.
The eldest son Ming: In "Nobody Knows", Ming is the only person who can walk out of the room openly. He assumes the responsibility of taking care of his younger brother and sister's daily life. When his mother is there, he cooks carefully, studies his homework seriously, and buys his sister's favorite Apo Luo Chocolate, with a sincere smile but also a heartfelt panic, he will see his mother's tears in the morning before the curtains are drawn, and he will say "again" after his mother tells him that he has a new crush . After his mother left, he took care of his younger brothers and sisters as usual at first until his mother ran out of money. He called his mother in the middle of the night to no avail, and went to different "fathers" to ask for money, until he realized that his mother had really left, and he Instead of my mother, I gave my brothers and sisters lucky money. I wanted to go to a convenience store to work and support my brothers and sisters. I was angry because of the money of unknown origin. I broke up with friends and didn't go to the convenience store to steal things. Convenience store stealing medicine. At the same time, he is also a young child. He likes to play baseball, read comics in convenience stores, and is eager to make friends. He was happy with bread, the sincere smile from his heart when he took his younger siblings to play in the park, and the good mood after a whole day of playing in the baseball team.
Jingzi: Jingzi plays the role of laundry at home. She loves to play the piano and also loves to wait for her mother to come home. She has always been dressed in white, a symbol of purity and beauty. At first, when her mother went to work, she would watch her leave through the glass, and she would wait at the door when she came back. Later, when her mother didn't return in January, when she came back, Jingzi sat on the ground and didn't get up, showing the child's silent rebuke to her mother. Later, when her mother left for a long time, she hid in her mother's closet. When she wanted to sell clothes in exchange for living expenses, she tore up and wouldn't let him take it away, showing the child's deep attachment to her mother and her hope that her mother would come back one day.
Shigeru and Snow don't seem to realize their mother's abandonment, and their innocence still occupies most of their lives. They "jumped" out of the box at first, lively and lovely, but after the mother left for a long time, they were still alive and looking forward to the sun.
Shahi is the only friend of the children. She lives in a rich house, but she is bullied at school. She avoids going to school and becomes friends with the children. Interact with them, and choose to help children when they are short of living expenses. Her inner helplessness and desire for friendship are unknown and forgotten.
In fact, the existence of the child may not be known to everyone. The clerk, Ming's two "friends", and the landlord all know about it, but they may be too busy to save trouble for their own lives, so they don't pay attention.
"Nobody Knows" is an excellent work by director Hirokazu Koreeda. The film was shortlisted for the main competition unit of the 57th Cannes International Film Festival. The 14-year-old Yumi Liu won the Best Actor Award in one fell swoop, becoming the Youngest actor in Cannes history. In this shocking film, it was Hirokazu Koreeda who continued his consistent humanitarian warmth and chose to silently protect these few unknown children. The tone of the entire film seems to make people forget the original cruel reality. The director focuses on rendering a warm and upward atmosphere, hiding the heavy theme in the deepest metaphor. The film has made a warm adaptation of the news, added delicate influence symbols to the documentary narrative, and raised issues such as the difficulties of juvenile life. .
