"Florida Paradise": a cruel coming-of-age ceremony

Viewing the complete film, a clear idea appears in the mind: this is by no means a film about children or childhood. Although it is equally clear that the film is filled with the laughing and running of the children headed by the little girl Moni, and even their noise may overwhelm the audience's impression of the background music, but behind this is the depression from the adult world. And the pain, obviously formed a striking contrast with the pure innocence floating on it. Therefore, if it is not an adult movie, it is also between adults and children; it is not only a ruthless puncture of the beautiful world bubble, but also a cruel rite of passage for the little protagonists in the film. And this coming-of-age ceremony is like Ling Chi, always "cutting the flesh", and when it suddenly comes to an understanding, it has to face it painfully. The film opens with Ditch taking his two friends, Moni and Scotty, to a fun place he newly discovered. They ran excitedly, running in their own paradise-the director used a lot of warm colors for the space modeling, which also highlighted the fantasy temperament of the paradise. They are free and safe in such an atmosphere. They can spit and swear at the car as much as they want, without worrying about the consequences or thinking about tomorrow. The biggest obstacle at this time may only be the parent's "Dickey, come up quickly". But that doesn't mean the collapse of Paradise, it's just a brief hiding of happiness. The lens point of view follows these little "explorers/imaginers", let them lead us to explore this unknown territory (for the audience), so that we can also experience the long forgotten, children in the mysterious atmosphere. The excitement of the time has led to full interest and trust in this "paradise". The shift of viewpoint means the shift of power. When power is transferred to the adults who usually control this group of children, we see what the adults see and feel what the adults feel. What we saw was the predicament of a young single mother, the suffering of a hotel manager, and felt that everyone's life is not easy, and we also know that this "paradise" is nothing more than a cheap motel that is not to be seen. As a result, the situation has turned upside down: even though paradise is still a paradise for the children, everyone except them, including the audience, has become the pressure brought by the name of "paradise". The bearer of the children, the guardian of the children’s happy fantasy. The opening ceremony of this coming-of-age ceremony has already started in the audience. The pain caused by the growth of Ling Chi, intuition is to escape. Monies face a dilapidated, "unpleasant" house, they can use a fire to make it disappear from the paradise; when they hear strange men (prostitutes) enter their "home", You can also use a shower curtain to separate it, as if the world inside the shower curtain is still pure and flawless. However, when the adults are so busy to fall out with friends and survive without money, such innocent and cute/self-deception efforts seem to be futile compared to it. Although the adults in the painting are still unremittingly chasing pedophiles for them, the creators outside the painting (and the audience) are also using more and more warm colors, soothing music, etc. to continue the dream of the paradise, but when After a series of incidents such as Dickey's move, Scottie being gated, and no free fast food anymore, Moni also began to understand that the paradise is not as beautiful as imagined. Therefore, when the moment when the person concerned no longer believes so much comes, the day that people have been infinitely delayed has finally arrived-the day of adulthood is also the day when the paradise collapses. This means leaving, means deprivation, means destroying everything that is "non-adult". Therefore, in the end, the tears that Monnie shed when facing Janice became the most precious and sincere tears in the world: before bearing pressure and suffering, experiencing pain and suffering, he had to deal with the world (paradise). The chapter written by Meili is a eulogy from the heart, and a touching tragedy sung. However, this is Hollywood after all. This growth pain, which is not so cruel in reality, but everyone will face, is reversed, beautified, and sublimated in the film. Janice took Moni's hand and ran all the way-just like the carefree rush in the opening of the film-ran out of the original, empty signifier "paradise", and then rushed to the next real paradise :Disney land. You know, this paradise has failed for all the adults (the Brazilian couple). Without the "four hundred under style" and the bewilderment of stopping at the desolate beach, Moni's running in exchange for it is a place of eternal innocence and holiness. However, in retrospect, aside from Hollywood-style dreams/reunion, besides this coming-of-age ceremony, perhaps the creators did not intend to exaggerate the cruelty of the outside world, and they did not always think that it was cruel: between people and people. The true feelings are still there, and understanding and dialogue can still proceed smoothly. Just like those cranes standing at the door, we are also able to wander around in this "paradise" of the world like them, if you originally meant to call it "paradise". We are driving away pedophiles, the creators outside the painting (and the audience) are also using more and more warm colors, soothing music, etc. to continue the dream of the paradise, but when Dickey moved, Scotty was gated, and then After a series of incidents such as the absence of free fast food, Moni also began to understand that the paradise is not as beautiful as imagined.
